Role

We are seeking a subject matter expert in leveraged finance and distressed debt, with a focus on the Americas region to manage a team of investigative reporters, financial analysts, and legal analysts. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of understanding, and analyzing legal and financial information, identifying noteworthy news and scoops, and integrating client feedback into the products they oversee. As a leader and coach, the candidate will be committed to the success of their team and reports, establishing clear KPIs and metrics for evaluation. They will have a passion for editorial content and processes, constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance them.

The candidate will possess a solid understanding of the leveraged finance, distressed debt industries participants' needs, competitive landscape, and market evolution. The ability to lead cross-functional teams across departments on multiple projects simultaneously, and operate and manage teams in a global business is a must. Leadership skills that others can learn from and seek to emulate, including an ability to manage teams, drive high performance, and lead through change, are highly valued. A compelling and verifiable track record of success as a strategic thinker and builder in a high-growth setting, with a proven ability to anticipate and plan for the long term while achieving near-term objectives is required.

Responsibilities

  • Managing all content and strategy for the region. Be the ultimate point person for all things related to editorial content. Your success is linked to the financial success of the products you manage, and the feedback we receive from our clients and your team.
  • Manage trifecta of Reporters+financial analysts+legal. Oversee effective allocation and prioritization of resources: working on hiring needs; managing day-to-day staffing; prioritizing day-to-day coverage focusing on market and client needs. 
  • Interact with clients engaging them regularly to seek feedback, and pitch the product. 
  • Work very closely with the commercial and marketing teams on business development, go-to-market strategy for editorial new and existing products and to help manage clients' demands and needs. 
  • Be ultimately responsible for coverage: ensure your reports are clear on their responsibilities/KPIs; assure complete coverage/follow up on stories following events etc.
  • Work on layout competencies for the different teams, and objectives, and setting up clear accountability.
  • Work with Product, Data Leadership, and Executive Leadership Teams on new editorial content and data initiatives.
  • Work with the senior editorial team globally (head of other regions across other products and regions) on common editorial initiatives.
  • Work with Heads of Editorial Operations and regional Heads to develop and implement repeatable and scalable editorial processes and protocols to enhance efficiency and empower the editorial team. You can formalize and record operating procedures and best practices, hold members of your team to a high level of accountability within the framework, and delegate to increase ownership and buy-in across all levels of the editorial team.

Requirements

  • Required to work from the NY office 3 days a week

  • Leadership and team management, including management of managers 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish editorial direction and content strategy 
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a matrixed organization and partner with relevant stakeholders 
  • +10 years of experience in sub-investment grade credit 
  • +7 years of management experience 
  • Experience with managing P&L preferred


At Octus, we consider a range of factors in connection with compensation decisions, including experience, skills, location, and our business needs and limitations. As a result, compensation may vary within and across similar roles and positions. Please note that the salary range information below is a good faith estimate for this position and actual compensation for any individual may fall outside this range if warranted by the circumstances applicable to that individual. If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.

The salary range estimate for this position is $200,000 - $300,000.
 
The actual compensation will be at Octus’s sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for an annual year-end performance bonus.
