Role
We are looking for a credit analyst to build out coverage of business development companies (BDC). The analyst will be a key contributor as Octus aims to establish market leadership in this fast growing asset class. The role is autonomous and each analyst will be in charge of covering a portion of the public BDC sector including keeping up to date financial models and offering insights to our subscribers.
The analyst will be part of Octus’ market leading financial analyst team creating content for our new private credit coverage. Prior experience covering financial based credits is preferred. The analyst will be responsible for publishing credit research reports on individual BDCs as well as contributing to trend-based reports for both BDCs and private credit.
The role provides the opportunity to collaborate with reporter and legal teams as well as other groups in generating cross-disciplinary research and analysis for our subscribers, which include top institutional asset managers, hedge funds, investment banks, trading desks, and financial and legal advisors. The role involves a high degree of client interaction.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in office per week) based in our NYC office.

Responsibilities
- Ensure coverage of a portfolio of BDCs
- Conduct fundamental credit analysis, relative value analysis and cash flow models with an aim of producing actionable investment ideas for our subscribers
- Write research reports with an aim towards explaining trends in the BDC market including direct lending and financing
- Identify lending opportunities or advisory work for Octus’ vast network of buyside and sellside clients
- Support and collaborate with our top-tier legal analysts and reporters
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years of credit research experience from buy side, sell side, or rating agency.
- Prior experience covering financial companies is a plus.
- Candidates should have experience with entire capital structure, especially loans
- Experience in building and maintaining financial and valuation models
- Possess very strong technical and analytical skills as well as excellent written and oral communication abilities
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located

As a result, compensation may vary within and across similar roles and positions. Please note that the salary range information below is a good faith estimate for this position and actual compensation for any individual may fall outside this range if warranted by the circumstances applicable to that individual. If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.
The salary range estimate for this position is $100,000 – 110,000.
The actual compensation will be at Octus’ sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for an additional annual discretionary bonus.
