The Role

At OffSec, we don’t just train cybersecurity professionals — we immerse them in hands-on, real-world labs where they learn by doing. Behind those labs is serious engineering magic, and we’re looking for a DevOps Architect to lead it.

We’re looking for a DevOps Architect to be the mastermind behind our next generation of scalable, secure, and ridiculously fun-to-break lab environments. If building large-scale, complex, hybrid infrastructures gets your heart racing (in a good way), and you want to make an impact on the way the world learns cybersecurity, this role is for you.

What You’ll Own & Build

We’re not looking for someone to just “keep the lights on.” We want an innovator who thrives on building at scale, solving complex problems, and shaping the future of OffSec’s training platform.

Infrastructure Architecture & Migration Leadership

  • Architect complex, multi-tier deployment environments using OpenStack to support realistic attack scenarios.
  • Build scalable, hybrid cloud + on-prem environments.
  • Reduce costs while boosting performance and resiliency.
  • Design secure hosting networks and topologies for offensive cyber training.
  • Set standards, patterns, and best practices for how we deploy labs.

Lab Environment Specialization

  • Create deployment pipelines where multi-VM cybersecurity labs spin up in under 5 minutes.
  • Implement static IPs and network isolation for thousands of concurrent users.
  • Optimize lab speed, scale, and efficiency.
  • Enable collaborative and private lab sessions through workspace-based models.

Strategic Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Platform and Content Engineers to anticipate infrastructure needs.
  • Mentor teams, challenge assumptions, and propose smarter solutions.
  • Drive Infrastructure-as-Code adoption and automation.
  • Spot optimization opportunities before anyone even asks.

Platform Engineering & Automation

  • Design GitLab CI/CD pipelines that make lab deployment seamless.
  • Build automation frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) for efficiency at scale.
  • Create self-service tools for engineers to deploy/manage labs.
  • Implement robust monitoring, observability, and disaster recovery with minimal downtime.

Cloud & Virtualization Management

  • Own and optimize OpenStack as our primary platform.
  • Strategically leverage AWS, Azure, and GCP where needed.
  • Execute cost optimization strategies and enforce governance policies.
  • Secure and standardize across all virtualization layers.
  • Deliver fast, reliable backup and snapshot strategies.

Network Architecture & Security

  • Design advanced network architectures (VPNs, VLANs, SDN).
  • Implement segmentation and security controls tailored to vulnerable labs.
  • Configure load balancers, firewalls, and network appliances.
  • Build monitoring and traffic analysis solutions.
  • Ensure labs are isolated, secure, and performant.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a builder, strategist, and mentor rolled into one:

  • OpenStack expertise: You’ve deployed, managed, and optimized at scale.
  • Cloud platforms: 5+ years hands-on with AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Networking wizardry: TCP/IP, routing, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls.
  • Automation chops: GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates.
  • Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes, orchestration experience.
  • Systems mastery: Advanced Linux + Windows Active Directory.
  • Experience: 4+ years in DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure roles, with 2+ years in senior/architect-level positions.
  • Track record: Large-scale infrastructure projects, cost optimization, migrations, high-availability, disaster recovery.
  • Mindset: Proactive problem-solver who challenges requirements and suggests smarter approaches.

Bonus points for:

  • Cybersecurity background (pen testing, vuln research, offensive/defensive labs).
  • Monitoring/observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Contributions to open source or technical writing.
  • Familiarity with OffSec’s training platforms and methodology.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

How do you know if you have a disability?

A disability is a condition that substantially limits one or more of your “major life activities.” If you have or have ever had such a condition, you are a person with a disability. Disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Alcohol or other substance use disorder (not currently using drugs illegally)
  • Autoimmune disorder, for example, lupus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV/AIDS
  • Blind or low vision
  • Cancer (past or present)
  • Cardiovascular or heart disease
