Junior Software Development Engineer - Backend (@Remote, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico)

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer I to join our Cloud Engineering team. This team is tasked with ensuring scalability and reliability for all backend services and keeping the SDLC running.

In this role, you will: Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of OfferUp's core applications and services.

Here’s more of what you will get to do:

• Implement new features and modifications to existing services under the guidance of senior engineers. 
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code for core backend services or user-facing applications. 
• Participate actively in code reviews to learn best practices and ensure code quality. 
• Assist in debugging, troubleshooting, and providing operational support for production systems. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA) to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Focus on continuous learning, researching new technologies, and understanding the system architecture

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• Experience: 1-2 years of professional software development experience, or strong internship/project experience.
• CS Fundamentals: Foundational understanding of computer science principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Communication: Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Coding Skills: Proficiency in at least one object-oriented language, such as Java, Python or TypeScript, and familiarity with scripting languages, SQL, etc.
• Dev Lifecycle: Experience or coursework with developing, debugging, and testing software applications.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field required.

Helpful, but not required:

• Familiarity with building software in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or similar).
• Experience with cloud engineering tools like Terraform or Kubernetes (k8s) on AWS or GCP.
