Audit Operations Summer Intern

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Audit Operations Summer Internship is a twelve-week, full-time program designed as the primary entry point for the OSA Field Auditor Pathway Program. This role offers students majoring in accounting, math, data analytics, business, or public administration the opportunity to gain foundational experience in government auditing. Interns will complete a structured curriculum and a capstone project to demonstrate their readiness for the year-long Pathway Program.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work under the direct supervision of an Auditor-in-charge (AIC) or audit staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Audit Support: Assist Audit Operations staff with daily business functions and tangible audit tasks as assigned by supervisors.
• Curriculum Engagement: Complete a specialized summer curriculum developed by Audit Operations and the Professional Development Committee (PDC).
• Capstone Project: Design and execute a capstone project (required for students entering their senior year) to showcase technical understanding and analytical skills.
• Professional Learning: Participate in group training sessions, job shadowing, and site visits to build core competencies in field auditing.
• Performance Metrics: Meet specific learning objectives based on the performance and competency metrics for Audit Field Staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess and/or demonstrate:
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to process data and assist in identifying trends or discrepancies during audit assignments.
• Collaborative Mindset: Willingness to work within a cohort, participating in group activities and leaning on peers for collective learning.
• Adaptability: Ability to rotate between different supervisors and mentors while maintaining high-quality work output.
• Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary for professional interaction within Audit Ops.
• Academic Standing: Must be a student entering their junior or senior year of college or university.
• Field of Study: Enrollment in a degree program for Accounting, Math, Data Analytics, Business, or Public Administration
• Residency: Open to all students attending public or private schools in Massachusetts.
Upon successful completion of the internship and capstone, students may be eligible to apply for the competitive nine-month Phase Two Pathway Program.
