With more than 20 years of experience, Cannings is one of Australia’s most trusted corporate and financial communications firms. We bring together strategic insight, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the issues facing Australian businesses.
While our history speaks to the strength of our client relationships, it’s our passion for new ideas—and our drive to stay ahead—that sets us apart.
About the role:
Cannings is hiring a Consultant to join the team.
As a Consultant in our business, you are beginning to identify and gain experience in multiple passion areas and subject matters.
Your client mix enables you to experience the full breadth of clients, industries and sectors, and you are widening your knowledge and expertise.

What you’ll do:
- Assisting the Head of Cannings in the effective implementation of programs agreed on behalf of clients
- Managing the day-to-day activities of the nominated smaller clients, taking the lead on the strategy and implementation and being the primary client contact
- Researching and preparing press releases, features, and proposals as required by your clients’ agreed-upon program
- Planning and organising press briefings, conferences and similar events for clients
- Developing and maintaining good contacts and relationships with the media is important to the clients of Cannings
- Organising resources to carry out and evaluate client programs effectively and promptly.
- Maintaining high standards of work by yourself and for the work you outsource
- Ensuring that agendas and contact reports are produced
- A commitment to achieving a working knowledge of the range of communication techniques required to execute public relations programs effectively and professionally on behalf of clients, including media relations, conferences, video and audio-visual productions, direct marketing, publication production, etc.
- Contribute to the development of Cannings whenever an opportunity presents itself
- Identify new business opportunities for your group and assist with the preparation of new business proposals
- Maintaining a good knowledge of current developments and trends affecting your client’s business and the industries they serve
- Developing and maintaining good contacts and relationships with suppliers.
- Maintaining good relationships at all levels within your client companies
What you'll bring:
- You can prioritise and manage several projects simultaneously
- You are a team player – the ability to achieve objectives through others, where no direct authority exists
- You can manage your own time and that of your teams to ensure the profitability of accounts
- You’re a self-starter, able to make active attempts to influence events and to achieve goals
- You have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant agency or in-house communications role
