About the Position
The Managing Director of Stewardship provides both strategic leadership and tactical support for comprehensive stewardship programs that strengthen donor relationships and inspire continued philanthropic investment. The Director works closely with development colleagues and other cross-functional partners to design, implement, and evolve stewardship strategies that are meaningful, personalized, and aligned with fundraising goals and strategies.
The Managing Director will also lead and mentor a small team, and will be responsible for developing a positive, inclusive and collaborative team environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Oversee Stewardship Program
- Lead and sustain a Foundation-wide stewardship program that celebrates impact and advances long-term philanthropic engagement for donors at all levels; ensure that donor touchpoints are timely, impactful, and strategic

Direct, oversee and/or execute key donor engagement and stewardship initiatives, including: endowment and scholarship reporting, acknowledgements, donor recognition, impact reporting, stewardship portfolio management, and endowed position stewardship
- Partner with donor relationship managers and other stakeholders to develop customized stewardship strategies and plans for principal and transformational gift donors

Serve as an advisor for OHSU Foundation/OHSU leadership to ensure stewardship strategies align with philanthropic strategy and donor intent
- Monitor and support standards for consistent and appropriate recognition of donors to buildings and other physical spaces

Develop and direct strategy for comprehensive student scholarship stewardship program
- Evaluate and enhance engagement programs through regular integration of current tools or innovative best practices

Establish and monitor key performance indicators and impact metrics for stewardship activities to continuously refine and enhance strategies

Who You Are

Demonstrated familiarity with stewardship practices and experience leading stewardship strategies or programs; able to apply current best practices and innovative solutions to stewardship programs

Exceptional relationship builder; driven to build strong partnerships with key internal stakeholders - including senior leadership, development, and communications – to develop and execute stewardship strategies and opportunities

Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills; builds credibility and trust across diverse external constituents, including physicians and academic leadership, board members, business leaders, donors, and volunteers
- Excellent project management and organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously

Excellent written communication skills and high level of attention to detail

Clear commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences

Knowledge of leadership practices and proven success in managing, mentoring, and retaining a diverse team
You should have
- 5-7+ years’ progressive experience in stewardship and/or donor relations
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a team
- Direct fundraising experience, particularly at the major and principal gift level
- Experience in higher education or healthcare

Working Conditions
- Occasional participation in evening and weekend events
- Travel is a requirement of this position; must possess valid driver license, access to vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage that meets Foundation requirements
Salary (Step I)
$89,030 - $120,191 USD
Pay
Salary is dependent on experience. Each salary band is broken into three "steps," which correspond with an employee’s experience/tenure, proficiency and performance in that specific role. New employees will typically start at step I of our pay band to allow for later growth, although more experienced candidates may be eligible to start at step II or III. The OHSU Foundation has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
