Head of Tax Information Reporting
Remote Roles - EMEA
Who We Are
At OKX, we believe that the future will be reshaped by crypto, and ultimately contribute to every individual's freedom.
OKX is a leading crypto exchange, and the developer of OKX Wallet, giving millions access to crypto trading and decentralized crypto applications (dApps). OKX is also a trusted brand by hundreds of large institutions seeking access to crypto markets. We are safe and reliable, backed by our Proof of Reserves.
Across our multiple offices globally, we are united by our core principles: We Before Me, Do the Right Thing, and Get Things Done. These shared values drive our culture, shape our processes, and foster a friendly, rewarding, and diverse environment for every OK-er.
About the Opportunity
OKX is hiring a Head of Tax Information Reporting to build and run our global tax information reporting function. The function covers the OECD Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), the EU's DAC8 directive, the amended Common Reporting Standard (CRS 2.0), FATCA, and US Form 1099-DA across multiple reporting entities and a large global user base, with annual reporting across the EU, Brazil, and other CARF jurisdictions.
Most of the work is data: getting the right user, transaction, and balance data out of our platform, reconciling it, and turning it into accurate filings. You will own the relationship with our reporting vendor, the data specification that feeds it, and the quality checks that decide whether a file goes out.
You will run a central function that owns policy, data, vendor, QA, and submission for every entity in scope. Each reporting entity names an accountable signatory. Local compliance and entity leads are consulted on local requirements and support registration where the law requires a local filer. You will work closely with Product, Data Engineering, Finance Operations, Group Tax, Legal, Data Privacy, and the local entity leads.
Location: remote available, with a strong preference for the US or EU. Some travel to OKX offices.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Own the end-to-end CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and 1099-DA reporting cycle for every OKX entity in scope: population definition, self-certification coverage, data extraction and reconciliation, file production, QA, filing, corrections, and tax authority queries.
-
Define and own the data specification that feeds the tax platform vendor: which users, which transactions, which balances, how they are aggregated by user and jurisdiction, and how they reconcile to the ledger. Work with Product and Data Engineering to build and test the pipeline.
-
Build and run the QA framework. Reconcile every file to source, validate it against the OECD XML schema and local variants, sample-test self-certification reasonableness checks, and run cross-entity consistency checks for users who hold accounts with more than one OKX entity. Nothing files without your release.
-
Manage the tax platform vendor: contract scope, delivery calendar, test cycles, output validation, issue resolution, and the annual renewal decision.
-
Set the group reporting policy and interpret the regimes for OKX: reportable crypto-assets, transfers to unhosted wallets, staking and reward income, retail payment thresholds, residency tie-breakers, and TIN rules, exercising independent technical judgment, supported by Legal and external tax advisers.
-
Own the global tax self-certification design in onboarding, including validation rules, refresh triggers, and the backlog remediation program for existing users, working with Compliance and Product.
-
Define the process for restricting undocumented accounts under DAC8 and CARF, including reason codes and customer communications, with restrictions applied automatically in Product and monitored by the central team.
-
Maintain the entity-by-entity readiness tracker covering domestic enactment, registration, self-certification coverage, and deadlines. Report weekly to the CCO and monthly to the CARF steering committee.
-
Hands-on leader. Build a small, senior team, scaled through the reporting vendor and outside advisers. Coordinate with and train local compliance and entity leads.
-
Support independent testing by Compliance Monitoring, Risk, and Internal Audit, and support tax authority examinations with complete, reproducible records.
What We Look For In You
-
7+ years in tax information reporting, tax operations, or regulatory data reporting at a global exchange, broker, bank, fintech, or digital asset platform, including at least 3 years leading a team.
-
Hands-on experience in a global, distributed digital asset business: you have worked with exchange or wallet transaction data, multiple legal entities, and users spread across many jurisdictions. This is required.
-
Strong data skills. You can write SQL, define data specifications for engineers, reconcile large transaction datasets to a ledger, and find the gap when the numbers do not tie. You have built or run data quality controls on reporting output.
-
Working knowledge of CARF, DAC8, CRS, and FATCA, including due diligence rules, self-certification requirements, reportable transaction categories, and the XML schemas used for exchange. Direct CARF or DAC8 implementation experience is strongly preferred given live DAC8 obligations and upcoming CARF reporting.
-
Experience managing a tax reporting vendor or reporting platform, including scoping, testing, and holding the vendor to a delivery calendar. the tax platform vendor experience is a plus.
-
Experience building a function from a small base: writing the policy, designing the controls, hiring the team, and running the first cycle.
-
Ability to explain data and tax issues plainly to executives, engineers, and local compliance officers, and to run a steering committee.
-
Judgment on when to escalate, comfort working across US, EU, and Asia time zones, and a record of meeting hard filing deadlines.
Nice to Haves
-
Experience with US Form 1099-DA or 1099-B production, backup withholding, or Qualified Intermediary reporting.
-
Experience with the DAC8 60-day account restriction process or equivalent undocumented account remediation at scale.
-
Familiarity with GDPR requirements for sharing customer data with tax authorities, including data protection impact assessments.
-
Python or similar scripting for data validation, and experience with data warehouse tools such as Databricks.
-
Experience working inside a Three Lines Model, including supporting second-line monitoring and Internal Audit.
-
A CPA, chartered tax adviser, or equivalent; or a degree in data science, computer science, or accounting.
Perks & Benefits
-
Competitive total compensation package
-
L&D programs and Education subsidy for employees' growth and development
-
Various team building programs and company events
-
Comprehensive healthcare schemes for employees and dependants
-
