(GenAI) Social Strategy Director

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands (2-3 days per week from the office)

Type: full-time, 12-month FTC with view to extend

We’re looking for a visionary GenAI Strategy Director to shape the future of digital marketing for some of the most loved food brands - powered by the most advanced AI-enhanced marketing capabilities in the industry.

You’ll lead the social-first, AI‑enabled marketing strategy for major brands across Europe, guiding how iconic food brands show up across social, digital, creator, and commerce ecosystems.

As part of the Brand Tech Group, you will be working alongside world‑leading AI experts who are actively reshaping how content is created, evaluated, optimised, and scaled. This is a chance to redefine the future of creativity and effectiveness for one of the world’s biggest FMCG portfolios.

The Role

We are seeking a brilliant GenAI Strategy Director to partner closely with client's regional European team and local markets (including Germany, Benelux, France, Poland, UK, and Italy). You’ll build the strategic foundations for culturally relevant, high-performing social content that drives brand love and business growth.

You’ll be immersed in food culture - from behaviours and rituals to trends, fandoms, and emerging narratives. You’ll know how to translate these into powerful content strategies that resonate with diverse audiences across Europe.

This role spans the full spectrum of modern communications: brand storytelling, platform strategy, creator & influencer strategy, real-time content, conversion content, and e-commerce. And crucially, you will champion and embed AI as a strategic co-pilot across insight, creativity, and effectiveness.

You will be based in Rotterdam, with responsibility across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

Cultural Relevance & Storytelling

  • Stay ahead of platform trends, behavioural shifts, cultural signals, and emerging food conversations.
  • Identify new formats, communities, narratives, and moments for brands to participate in.
  • Tap into fandoms, memes, banter, and cultural vernacular to make client brands part of the conversation.
  • Shape how content is evaluated, created, remixed, and optimised to drive effectiveness.

Communications & Social Strategy

  • Lead end‑to‑end communications strategy across channels (AV, retail, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook, etc.).
  • Translate global brand strategies into localised social-first strategies tailored to European markets.
  • Define platform roles, content systems, and measurement approaches.

AI Innovation & Strategic Excellence

  • Champion responsible, cutting‑edge AI applications across insight, strategy, and creativity.
  • Test, adopt, and define new use cases for AI to enhance strategic impact.
  • Develop strategic frameworks blending traditional marketing thinking with AI-powered capabilities.
  • Guide teams on leveraging AI for insight discovery, planning, storytelling, and performance optimisation.

Cross-Functional Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with client marketing teams and local market social teams to align strategies and deliver against KPIs.
  • Act as a champion of creative and strategic effectiveness across teams and markets.
  • Mentor and guide junior strategists, social strategists, and data specialists.

Real-Time & Reactive Content

  • Build frameworks for timely, relevant, and on-brand participation in category and cultural moments.
  • Enable teams to act quickly while maintaining strategic and brand integrity.

Data-Driven Optimisation

  • Work with data & insights teams to decode performance, refine strategy, and turn insights into action.
  • Use social listening and analytics tools to monitor shifts, trends, and opportunities.

Creator & Partner Ecosystems

  • Collaborate with influencers, creators, and agency partners to deliver culturally connected work.
  • Ensure partnerships ladder directly into brand and business objectives.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership as a digital, social, or brand strategist - agency or client side.
  • Demonstrated experience using modern AI tools within strategy or creative workflows.
  • Strong understanding of social platforms, emerging behaviours, creator culture, and digital ecosystems.
  • Exceptional insight‑crafting skills; able to turn complexity into clear, actionable strategies.
  • A natural simplifier and storyteller with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Highly collaborative, with experience working across global–local structures.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable in fast‑paced, evolving environments.
  • Passion for digital creativity, food culture, trends, and communities.
