
Temporary Packaging Engineer
THE ROLE: TEMPORARY PACKAGING ENGINEER
We are looking for a Packaging Engineer (Contractor) to support our base business packaging projects. This part-time role will focus on delivering high-quality, timely, and sustainable packaging solutions that support OLLY’s commercial success and supply chain efficiency.
You’ll work cross-functionally with Product Development, QA, Sourcing, and 3PM partners to qualify packaging for ongoing innovation and renovationprojects. You’ll also support packaging testing, process improvement, and help maintain team momentum in active projects. This role is ideal for someonewho is technically strong, organized, and energized by building packaging that is both functional and sustainable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and qualify primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging for base business innovation and renovation projects, ensuring alignment with customer, brand, and manufacturing requirements.
- Build and execute robust test plans to validate packaging performance across product lifecycle stages, includingfilling, transit, and shelf-life.
- Partner with internal teams and external suppliers to troubleshoot packaging-related issues and ensure consistentsupply chain performance.
- Identify and address process gaps in the packaging development workflow to improve efficiency anddocumentation.
- Conduct research and track market trends to stay current on packaging developments in the VMS category.
- Champion sustainability in all projects by recommending improvements to material choices, design efficiency, andrecovery pathways.
- Contribute to personal and team development by participating in knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement efforts.

CAPABILITIES + SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years of relevant industry experience in CPG, VMS, or Pharmaceutical packaging development.
- Strong technical understanding of rigid and flexible packaging formats, including their forming processes andperformance limitations.
- Experience in creating and executing qualification test plans for packaging components.
- Ability to propose packaging solutions that meet function, cost, and sustainability goals—and gain alignment fromcross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to clearly assess and articulate project risks andtrade-offs.
- Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to manage timelines across multiple priorities in a part-time capacity.
- Passionate about packaging that performs well and minimizes environmental impact.
THE DETAILS
LOCATION: Remote, priority will be given to candidates located near San Francisco, CA to support a hybrid work model.
HOURS: Part Time - 20 - 30 Hours/week
MANAGER: Chief Product Officer
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
CONTRACT LENGTH: Mid-October 2025 – Mid-April 2026 (6 Months)
The pay range for this position is $45-55 per hour dependent on experience.
