
Steel Lab Technician

As a steel lab technician, you will work closely with clients and other members of the Olsson team in conducting laboratory testing related to material mechanical properties. You will be responsible for basic Destructive Steel Lab tasks. Responsible for specimen preparation for testing. Responsible for setting up, conducting, and evaluating a variety of materials and welded coupons tests include, CVN Impact and Tensile strength, bend, and other mechanical testing.
As at technician your duties will include but not limited to:
- Test plate, sheet, angle iron, I-beam, and tube products
- Test weld coupons for weld quality and strength
- Specimen preparation and management
- Setup and operate CNC milling machines, vertical and horizontal band saws, and grinders
- Use precision measuring equipment
- Lift and carry up to 80 pounds
- Data entry, analysis, and quality control of results
- Perform calibrations, maintenance and checks of equipment
Qualifications

You bring to the team:
- Machinist or Tool Maker experience
- Ability to setup and operate manual and CNC machine tools (milling machines, saws, and grinders)
- Experience interpreting industry and national standards (API, ASTM, ASME, AWS, etc.)
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to contribute and work well on a team
- Strong communication and computer skills, enthusiastic attitude, and strong attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license
- Mechanical testing or laboratory experience in a Metallurgy or Materials testing lab highly desirable
- Ability to work wearing safety equipment
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
