Electromechanical Engineer
Montreal
Omniply is looking for an electromechanical Engineer to join the R&D team and to work closely with the lead mechanical engineer in designing, prototyping and assembly, as well as being the liaison with equipment supplier and the commissioning at clients’ locations. We are looking for a candidate with background in electrical or mechanical engineering, design, or manufacture. Experience in semi-conductor or printing business is an added asset.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Lead Mechanical Engineer on automating equipment
- Assist with electromechanical assembly, sourcing and design
- Control logic & PLC programming
- Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision, and 3rd party equipment.
- Execute mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and other manual work necessary for manufacturing as required.
- Ability to translate improvement ideas/initiative or recurrent issues into PLC code and/or additional required instrumentation
- Dismantle and reassemble machines or installations to have access to defective parts.
- Electrical / mechanical and root cause analysis, fault finding and diagnosis, as well as recovery and resolution.
- Accompany any contractor performing work in the lab or plant
Qualifications:
- 2-5 year of experience in an electromechanical oriented role
- Self starter- should be able to work with minimal supervision (prior start-up environment experience is a large plus)
- AutoCAD, SolidWorks software experience
- Experience communicating with or working with manufacturers
- Demonstrated hands-on metal work and fabrication of simple objects
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production is desired
- Proficient with Microsoft office tools, especially Excel and Word
- Collaborative in nature and able to function within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Nice to haves:
- Familiarity with thin film deposition techniques and thin film metrology tools is an asset
- Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent
- Software knowledge (C, C++, Python)
- Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
- The ideal candidate takes pride in his/her hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Constantly ensure the safety and security of assets in all maintenance operations: respect, apply and recall safety instructions.
- Ensure compliance with the CNESST legislation and follow up according to regulatory constraints.
- Influence and help the entire company to implement HSE training initiatives.
- Identify and anticipate health and safety concerns and hazards.
- Apply lockout tagout procedures when required.
This will be an in-person position.
Must be located in Canada and able to start within a few weeks (individuals currently enrolled in a study program with a future graduation date will not be considered)
