The South Tree Senior Field Manager will be responsible for managing a team of (senior) Tree officers (or one cluster) to ensure we produce & distribute planned seedlings in quality and reach our farmer goals through government extension system support. You will be a part of the Radical Innovations team (South Tree) and will report directly to the Expansion Specialist. This role is based in Wolaita Sodo and is fully on-site, with an expectation of up to 4 days to be spent in the field every week.

You Will:

  • Manage a team of Tree officers (TOs) in Wolaita zone which requires you to

    • Conduct 1:1 check in with each TO

    • Capacitate the staff to come up to speed on their problem-solving, Stakeholder management, persuasion, & data management skills.

    • Do PDRs for TOs every 6 months

    • Manage their performance through KPIs

    • Conduct Monthly development CI

    • Support hiring and training of new staff as needed

    • Facilitate weekly TO meetings

  • Analyze data and follow up on the Cluster & team performance:

    • Analyze KPIs to identify trends, struggling sites and places

    • Identify concrete action items from the KPI analysis

    • Co-lead KPI discussions at the weekly FC meetings

    • Follow up on the KPIs to check on improvement, take corrective actions and use as a tool for staff management

    • Manage underperformance issues

  • Program Coordination and Implementation

    • Conducting field visits and back checks. Spend up to 4 days of the week in the field doing field visit.

    • Prepare organized field visit notes a& share to manager

    • Make sure Tree officers have made regular field support, weekly meeting with woreda focal person and monthly woreda stakeholders meeting

    • Monitor and ensure that the cluster is on track based on the program calendar and MoU.

    • Meet scale goals in terms of the number of trees to produce and plant and farmers served.

    • Run technical training for trainers

    • Ensure the program's success by advocating with Woreda-level stakeholders to encourage Kebele development agents and administrators to mobilize farmers to buy tree seedlings.

  • Provide strong communication link between HQ and the field

    • Write excellent weekly reports that summarize all the major issues in your woreda

    • Share all problems with your manager in a timely manner, help to brainstorm solutions, implement the discussed solutions in a timely manner

    • Share all communications on technical trainings, strategy, policies, etc. from HQ with the team or government

You Have:

  • Have people management experience of at least 2 years with 3+ team size

  • Strong Problem solving & people management skill.

  • Experience managing Government stakeholders

  • 1 year of training experience

  • Knowledge & experience in Agroforestry

  • Good planning skills.

  • Spreadsheet basic understanding & data analysis experience (Google sheet & MS Excell)

The Radical Innovations program has been working this season in Southern Ethiopia, Wolaita Zone as a pilot in 50 nurseries. For the next season, we are planning to work in 6 woredas & grow our nurseries to 75 with 50% expansion. We foresee big growth for the team & your work will be directly responsible for the program's success.
