West Coast Fundraising Lead

West Coast major Cities, United States of America

About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies more than 5 million smallholder farm families with the agricultural services they need to make their farms more productive. Our 9,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across ten core countries in Africa, we support farmers to become more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivering the supplies within walking distance of farmers' homes, and offering agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest ~50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

Our vision by 2030 is to provide services to 10 million families, with 55 million individuals living in those families - helping farmers to earn more income while also building resilience to adverse events.

About the Role

One Acre Fund is looking to grow our Business Development team with a new West Coast Fundraising Lead who will report to our President Andrew Youn. You will work with our writing, finance, and program teams to develop our fundraising base on the West Coast of the United States and convert new donor relationships within their first year. You will not have managerial responsibilities initially, although this may change over time.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of consistent annual 7-8 figure fundraising results, a strong existing network of high potential donors and a passion for helping organizations build new relationships. You will have annual fundraising targets that inform performance assessments.

If successful, you will help raise the funds to catalyze the next phase of One Acre Fund’s growth, supporting our ambitious 2030 vision to deliver $1B in impact to 10 million smallholder farmers and their families. This role offers a powerful opportunity for personal impact on pressing global challenges - your skillset and energy will help measurably and sustainably improve the lives of the world's largest population living in extreme poverty.

Responsibilities

  • Grant fundraising. You will work independently to build a pipeline of high-net-worth individual and institutional donor gifts, with a primary focus on donor prospects in the Bay Area, converting these leads into high-value relationships for One Acre Fund. You may collaborate closely with the President at first, but within 6-12 months, you will be expected to independently bring in new relationships incremental to One Acre Fund’s existing network of donors.
  • Grant stewardship. You will steward the high-value relationships that you secure, building a pathway towards a renewal and if appropriate, an increase in giving over time. This may require activities such as but not limited to coordinating with program teams to ensure grant milestones are being met, preparing formal progress updates for the donor (with support from writing team), and supporting donor visits in our program areas.
  • Strategy. In collaboration with the President and Business Development leadership, you will develop our broader US West Coast Fundraising Strategy to support One Acre Fund's growth goals. These goals will focus on new relationships for 1AF, incremental to our existing donor base, with particular interest in ultra-high net work individuals (UNHWIs) and the Tech community, although we are open to other fundraising segments.
  • Spokesperson for farmers. One Acre Fund contributes to global discussions involving smallholders, including for example resilience building and the agricultural financing gap. You will be a spokesperson for our organization, presenting at high-value events and conferences across the country.

Career Growth and Development

We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 10+ years of relevant fundraising experience of steadily increasing scope and complexity, with experience in the international development sector being an additional advantage. Specifically, we are looking for:
    • Consistent annual fundraising results of 7-8 figures for the last few years
    • Comfort with annual fundraising targets driving performance assessments
    • Experience independently managing the full fundraising stages from prospecting through stewardship once secured (with support from writing and finance teams)
  • Existing networks in the philanthropic community on the West Coast of the United States, which you will use to develop a pipeline of new partnerships.
  • Ability to travel. You may have up to 40-60 nights per year of travel, primarily domestic, although this can be discussed. The dates of travel are flexible.
  • Genuine commitment to rural communities. You are passionate about providing opportunity to the hardest-working farmers on the planet.
  • Language: English
