
France Director

The France Director will lead on advocacy, media and campaigning and policy-influencing strategies and priorities in France with the support of an established France-based team; build relationships with politicians, government agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector and key individuals; and will develop mission-related and context-specific strategies and partnerships that will advance international development issues in France. The Director will be accountable as the face of ONE in France, and contribute to organization leadership for Continental Europe and collaborate with colleagues across ONE.
The France Director will build a high performing team in France, and be responsible for leading the team, hiring, morale, performance assessment and day-to-day guidance for the team.
The successful candidate will have a strong campaigning background with a demonstrated track record of success working with the French government to achieve strategic policy goals. They will be an innovative leader who can lead teams to “think big” and collaborate across the organization. Those who have previously lived/worked in Africa and have a passion for the causes ONE supports are highly preferred.
The role is based in Paris or Brussels, and reports to the Executive Director of Continental Europe.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Develop and implement a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening ONE’s political relationships and public support in France.
- Expand funding support in France and develop relationships with our French funders and ensure we are meeting their expectations.
- Work closely with the French Policy and Advocacy Director to develop and maintain strong relationships with, and represent ONE to, French elected and appointed decision makers, senior government officials, and other policy influencers. Guide team to expand their relationships in these areas.
- Develop strategy to increase the network of key contacts in the NGO, corporate, academics, the artistic industry and media sectors who are supportive of ONE’s organizational objectives.
- Work closely with the French Senior Campaigns manager to develop an effective campaigning strategy for ONE in France, develop ONE’s brand, and ONE’s grassroots advocacy actions.
- Act as the ONE in France spokesperson.
- Work closely with Senior Media Manager, Europe to develop an effective communications and media strategy for ONE in France and aligned with organizational messaging.
- Work closely with the European Leadership and the cross-Europe Policy and Advocacy teams to optimize ONE’s impact in France and across Europe and to ensure synergies across European markets are realized.
- In collaboration with the France team and global teams adapt and develop short-term and long-term cross-organizational messaging and narratives to the French market.
- Lead, engage, and empower a France-based team of staff and consultants. Serve as an inspiring leader and coach, manage performance, and help create a learning environment for the team ensuring team members have clear roles and responsibilities, and the resources to fulfill their objectives.
- Be fiscally responsible for development and management of the France budget, ensuring the budget is in line with the strategic plan and used in line with established processes and policies.
- Be responsible for resource allocation, including spending and hiring of staff in line with established processes and policies.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a senior level position within international development, civil society, media, public relations, global health, or government, plus 5+ years’ in a team management or lead capacity.
- Related work history and/or demonstrable interest in the causes ONE supports including poverty and infectious disease alleviation, advocacy, public mobilization and public speaking.
- Global Health financing experience is highly desired.
- Demonstrable commitment to ONE’s policy priorities and a clear understanding of the links between policy, lobbying, campaigning, citizen engagement, and media work and of how policy change can be achieved through effective education.
- Excellent understanding of the French political context, with a broad spectrum of developed political
- Experience of communicating public policy issues and complex legislative processes for a range of stakeholders, including public sector actors, the media and members of the public.
- Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and empowering a team to design, facilitate, and deliver short and long-term strategies.
- Ability to work effectively, diplomatically, and sensitively with a wide range of partners; highly proficient at establishing strong partnerships across organizations and engaging stakeholders at all levels to achieve optimal outcomes. Experience working with volunteers to affect policy change is desirable.
- Outstanding analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills, both in French and in English.
- Demonstrable high-level PR and marketing skills and instincts.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills and strong quantitative skills
- Creative problem-solving and an ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment, enabling ONE to achieve its goals in France.
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to apply tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work proactively and independently, consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Job is a hybrid position, with the expectation of being in the Paris or Brussels office, three days per week. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
COMPENSATION: €100,000 - €125,000 per year
This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organizations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hire’s salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors, including the budget available for this position.
