Organization Summary:
Shuraako Capital is an international NGO whose mission is to provide growth capital and support services to small- and medium-sized enterprises in fragile and conflict-affected settings. We currently manage the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund, a $28 million Sharia-compliant debt fund in Somalia, and are preparing to expand in the Horn of Africa and francophone west Africa. Shuraako Capital believes that, with the right support, small and medium-sized enterprises can be a driving force for peace and prosperity in their countries.
Primary Role:
The Operations Assistant will serve as pivotal support to the COO, proactively facilitating the efficiency and effectiveness of all executive functions. This individual will be instrumental in overseeing field operations, orchestrating meetings and documenting minutes, monitoring deliverables, and ensuring prompt and accurate responses. Furthermore, the Operations Assistant will assist the COO in comprehensive management of daily activities, encompassing but not limited to the supervision and optimization of all organizational activities and processes.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-motivated, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English. A solid understanding IT and the African development landscape is essential.

Job Type:
6 month Fixed Term Contract. Hourly, Full-Time. Typically, the Operations assistant will work 45 hours per week.
Compensation:
The Hiring range for this position is: USD $4.10 - $4.50 per hour (approximately $9,590 - $10,500 annually).
Location:
This position is located at the Shuraako Capital office in Hargeisa and is able to travel to other Shuraako Capital offices.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage schedules, travel arrangements, and prepare expense reports for the COO.
- Handle confidential information with a high level of discretion.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, field reports, meeting minutes and other materials.
- Coordinate meetings and conference calls, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
- Maintain organized files and databases.
- Perform other operations including in partnership with the HR, Operations, Communications, IT and field offices.
- Assist in keeping track of operational deliverables and ensure all field teams provide necessary reports and information requested on time.
- Oversee and manage third-party agreements with external companies, consultancies, and system providers, ensuring contractual compliance, currency, and the delivery of services that meet organizational standards. Conduct periodic reviews and maintain rigorous monitoring protocols to optimize partnership performance and proactively address any gaps or service issues.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Competences:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, IT, finance, or related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Superb research and analytical skills with experience in various topics.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic, culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive impression with partners, clients, and vendors.
- Flexibility to accommodate early or late meetings.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and resolving problems.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in the financial services, IT and non-profit industry.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Basic graphic design skills.
- Report writing skills.
- Fluency in English and Somali.
- Experience supporting a senior executive.
- Familiarity with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Physical Work Demands:
- Able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Able to bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
- Able to lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly.
