About the Position

The Engineering Intern adeptly manages multiple engineering efforts on projects in varying stages of planning, design, and construction. This is a full-time summer position that reports directly to the Engineering Manager in our Madison, WI office. The role works cohesively and collaboratively across companywide functional teams to include development, engineering, accounting, financial planning, and legal. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Produce AutoCAD-based designs and drawings with support from Engineering Managers and Associates.
  • Utilize production estimating software to model and forecast the expected energy output of solar systems in development.
  • Develop preliminary site plans and single line diagrams.
  • Participate in the detailed design of utility scale solar electric systems including but not limited to interconnection design in compliance with utility Interconnection Agreements. 
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and project completion meetings. Help to close the loop with Development and Delivery internal teams by providing continual feedback and support.
  • Continually share knowledge with coworkers and managers to ensure project successes and failures are learned by all within the organization. 
  • Contribute to an amicable working environment with other associates and employees.
  • Contribute to our thought leadership role in the energy industry.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of a bachelor or master’s level program, pursuing an Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Baseline knowledge of the National Electrical Code, National Electric Safety Code, the International Building Code and other related codes and standards.
  • Understanding of AC power distribution and transmission systems.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong presentation skills are a must.
  • Drafting experience (AutoCAD).
  • Technology savvy with advanced computer skills. A demonstrated ability with MS Office, MS Windows and project tracking software is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and the organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical system modelling experience (ETAP).
  • Hands-on construction experience and a practical understanding about the electrical trades.
