Position Objective:
The Community Engagement Intern reports to the Manager of Communications and Community Engagement and works hand in hand with the Community Solar teams, subcontractors, and other staff to complete tasks related to the planning and execution of community engagement efforts for OneEnergy’s solar projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. This role will support community research and outreach efforts that enable OneEnergy’s solar projects to integrate positively with fenceline communities in the region.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Community Solar development teams in conducting community research, stakeholder mapping, engagement tracking and data collection, and executing engagement strategies.
- Collaborating with the Manager of Communications and Community Engagement to support outreach for projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Researching community engagement best practices that allow OneEnergy to establish and maintain an industry leadership position as a responsible energy developer.
- Coordinating broader engagement activities such as educational opportunities, panel donations, and community benefits execution.
- Creating compelling and effective educational materials for community events.
- Performing other related community engagement support tasks as needed.
- Operating in a professional, responsible, and collaborative manner with all project participants.
Requirements:
- Degree (in progress or completed) with coursework in communications, community engagement, social sciences, environmental studies, public relations or related study.
- Interest in solar, renewable energy, community engagement, responsible energy development.
- Must be willing to engage with individuals with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, life experiences, and worldviews.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with MS Office and Windows.
- Self-motivated with ability to take initiative and implement feedback.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have a “roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right” type attitude.
- Demonstrated qualities of integrity, credibility, and professional responsibility.
- A willingness to contribute to our culture which thrives on building trust and holding one another accountable.
- Ability to travel to communities in the Mid-Atlantic region (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania). Position requires occasional travel; must carry an active driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Preferred:
- Lived experience or strong familiarity with communities in the Mid-Atlantic or Appalachian region.
