Data Scientist - Internship
ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world’s leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we’re scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.
As a Data Science Intern, you will support the team across the full data workflow — from understanding the problem to preparing data, running analyses, and assisting with models — while learning and applying best practices in Data Science and Machine Learning.
Understanding the Context
- Understand the business problem and the technical context of each project.
Data ingestion and Structuring
- Analyze and document the available data sources.
- Extract information from structured files, databases, and APIs.
- Organize and structure datasets for subsequent analysis.
- Assist in the ingestion and acquisition of the data required for each project.
Data Quality and Cleaning
- Carry out data-cleaning tasks: handling missing values, duplicates, and inconsistencies.
- Validate the quality, integrity, and consistency of the information.
- Identify and report data issues, as well as any relevant findings.
Analysis and Visualization
- Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns and anomalies.
- Build visualizations that make the data easier to interpret.
- Help produce and, where possible, automate statistical reports to support the commercial team.
Modeling and Experimentation
- Support the preparation and transformation of data for analytical and predictive models.
- Take part in Machine Learning and Deep Learning experiments.
- Help run, evaluate, and monitor existing models.
- Contribute to predictive maintenance through anomaly-detection, prognosis, and classification models.
Maintenance and Continuous Improvement
- Help keep production AI algorithms running and suggest improvements.
- Document processes, methodologies, assumptions, and results.
- Collaborate with the team on analysis, modeling, and continuous-improvement activities.
- Learn and apply best practices in Data Science and Machine Learning.
Projects You May Support
You will likely contribute to two projects: (1) ERCOT market fundamentals analytics, and (2) predictive maintenance.
Requirements
