Amarillo, Texas, United States

ON.energy is setting the standard for large load interconnection. ON’s patented AI UPS™ is a medium-voltage UPS that serves as a firewall, protecting the data center from the grid, and the grid from the data center. With multiple gigawatts currently under construction, we are enabling grid-safe data centers.

Travel Requirement: >80% site based

Position Type: Full-Time, hourly with OT and per diem

Location: Field-Based in United States (current site in Amarillo, TX)

Overview

The Site Readiness Technician III is a master technician and field supervisor responsible for leading inspection crews and driving Site Readiness execution on ON.energy’s mission-critical, medium-voltage double-conversion UPS systems built on utility-scale BESS equipment (batteries, transformers, PCS, and controls). The Technician III performs advanced receiving and mechanical completion inspections, leads non-conformance disposition, supports pre-energization readiness, and mentors junior technicians while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

This is a senior, hands-on, high-travel field role for a technician who can operate autonomously, supervise crews, and interface directly with the Site Readiness Manager, commissioning engineers, EPC partners, and OEM representatives.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Foster and maintain a culture of safety for all team members, overseeing JHA and LOTO program compliance and maintaining zero recordable injuries.

Field Supervision

  • Act as field supervisor for teams of 2–12 Site Readiness Technicians.
  • Work autonomously to further project readiness goals and maintain inspection quality and tracking standards with junior members.
  • Provide hands-on training to junior and intermediate technicians on inspection procedures, documentation, and acceptance criteria.

Inspection, Verification & Non-Conformance

  • Perform advanced receiving inspections and mechanical completion verification on BESS containers, battery racks/modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, telecom cabinets, and auxiliary systems.
  • Verify torque, terminations, grounding, cable routing, labeling, conduit, and enclosure integrity against approved submittals, drawings, OEM requirements, and the project Quality Plan.
  • Lead initial disposition of non-conformances; initiate and track NCRs and punch list items through closure, escalating to the Site Readiness Manager and engineering when issues cannot be resolved in the field.
  • Support pre-energization readiness reviews and quality walkdowns with commissioning.

OEM/EPC Interface & Documentation

  • Interface with OEM field representatives and EPC quality personnel; relay findings to the Site Readiness Manager and engineering.
  • Maintain excellent documentation habits — inspection reports, photographic evidence, redlines, and field discrepancy tracking — in the project platform (Overmap, CxAlloy, or equivalent).

Tools & Diagnostics

  • Proficient in the safe use of standard hand tools and calibrated torque tools for verification of assembly and installation.
  • Skilled in operating inspection and diagnostic equipment including digital multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers, and other measurement devices commonly used in battery energy storage systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on experience in field inspection, construction QA/QC, or electrical/mechanical commissioning on power systems.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, UL 9540/9540A, utility standards, and OEM installation requirements.
  • Associate degree or vocational/military training in Electrical, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong judgment on dispositioning defects and knowing when to escalate to engineering.
  • Willing and able to travel up to ~80% to project sites nationwide.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medium-voltage equipment and pre-energization verification.
  • Safety certifications (OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, First Aid, CPR, AED).
  • Prior BESS or hyperscale data center inspection or commissioning experience.
  • Certifications such as NETA, AWS CWI, or ISO 9001 auditor.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership presence and ability to supervise crews.
  • Excellent inspection instincts and attention to detail — a “zero-defect” mindset.
  • Clear communicator with the Site Readiness Manager, engineers, OEMs, EPC partners, and junior technicians.
  • Bias toward safety, quality, and thorough documentation.
