As the Director of Engineering, you are someone who deeply cares about your team and the success of those around you. You are an experienced leader and manager with a strong background in SaaS based product organizations and you were once a developer yourself. You can hold your own in technical conversations, though don't need to write software. You are an energetic person with a passion to learn and can quickly and effectively take those learnings and apply them to their work. You take a servant leadership approach to management waking up every day to improve the experiences of your team and the organization. You shine as a collaborator and are an impeccable communicator. 

What You'll Be Working On

  • Delivery & Roadmap Execution: Own the tactical execution of the engineering roadmap. Partner with Product and Design to break down product requirements into clear milestones, ensuring the team consistently ships high-quality software on time. 
  • Hands-on Architectural Guidance: Unblock engineering teams by participating in technical design reviews. Ensure the team builds a stable, scalable platform that successfully ingests and processes complex clinical trial data sources without technical debt. 
  • Feature & Tooling Implementation: Drive the day-to-day development of predictive models and analytics tools. Work directly with data and software engineers to ensure these tools accurately surface trial bottlenecks and function reliably for end-user 
  • Sprint & Resource Management: Manage sprint capacity, budget tracking, and day-to-day resource allocation. Balance technical debt with feature delivery to maximize engineering velocity and keep data collection timelines on track. 
  • Agile Process Optimization: Run, refine, and optimize the agile ceremonies and development workflows within your department. Identify and eliminate operational friction to improve the team's daily shipping cadence. 
  • Line Management & Career Mentorship: Manage Engineering Managers and Tech Leads directly. Conduct regular 1-on-1s, deliver performance reviews, write career growth plans, and actively interview and onboard new engineering hires. 
  • Team Health & Collaboration: Maintain a high-performing, inclusive team culture. Resolve interpersonal or cross-team friction and ensure clear communication boundaries between engineering squads. 
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for project stakeholders. Translate technical blockers, updates, and risks into clear operational timelines for non-technical partners. 

What You Bring to OneStudyTeam

  • Minimum Education 
    • BA or BS degree from college or university. 
  • Minimum Experience 
    • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years successfully managing engineering teams. 
  • Proven experience as a "manager of managers," directly leading and developing Engineering Managers and Technical Leads. 
  • Track record of owning the execution and on-time delivery of complex, data-heavy software products and platforms. 
  • Strong technical background in scalable architecture, cloud infrastructure, and handling complex data pipelines or predictive models. 
  • Deep operational expertise in Agile/Scrum methodologies, sprint capacity planning, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) workflows. 
  • Ability to actively participate in and guide technical design reviews, ensuring platform stability and minimal technical debt. 
  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to translate technical blockers and project risks for non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Experience fostering a high-accountability, collaborative team culture that maintains high morale during rapid growth. 
  • Prior experience working within HealthTech, Biotech, or the Clinical Trials/Life Sciences industry is highly preferred. 

The expected pay range for this role is $180,000 - $230,000 USD per year for full time team members.
