
Engineering Manager, CloudOps

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CloudOps Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Operations team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of our cloud infrastructure, predominantly hosted on AWS. You will blend hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership abilities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and operational excellence. What You'll Do:
- Lead and Mentor: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented CloudOps engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Provide regular feedback, support career development, and conduct performance reviews.
- Strategic Vision & Execution: Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for our cloud infrastructure and operations, aligning with business objectives and product development initiatives.
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert, providing guidance and contributing hands-on to complex technical challenges, particularly related to AWS and Terraform.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Drive the adoption and maturity of Infrastructure as Code principles, utilizing Terraform extensively to manage, provision, and version our cloud resources in a repeatable and automated manner.
- DevOps Culture & Practices: Champion and embed DevOps best practices across the organization, including continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, monitoring, and proactive incident management.
- AWS Expertise: Leverage deep knowledge of AWS services to design, implement, and optimize highly available, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective cloud solutions. This includes services like EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, CloudWatch, EKS/ECS, etc.
- Operational Excellence: Establish and maintain robust monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing systems to ensure the health and performance of our cloud environments. Define and track key operational metrics and SLAs.
- Cost Optimization: Proactively identify and implement strategies for cloud cost optimization without compromising performance or reliability.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure adherence to security best practices, compliance standards (e.g., SOC2), and organizational policies within our cloud infrastructure.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with software engineering, product management, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless deployment, operation, and scalability of applications.
- Automation: Identify opportunities for automation to streamline operational tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce manual effort.
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in Cloud Operations, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles.
- 2+ years of experience in an engineering management or team lead role.
- Deep hands-on expertise with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is essential. Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing complex AWS environments. AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional) are a significant plus.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code. Solid understanding of Terraform modules, state management, and best practices.
- Profound understanding and practical experience with DevOps principles and methodologies. Strong advocate for automation, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous improvement.
- Strong scripting and programming skills (e.g., HCL, Bash, Typescript, Python) for automation and tooling.
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Github Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, AWS CodePipeline).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, Load Balancing) in a cloud context.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Datadog, Sentry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
