Co-op, Data Scientist, ONCAP (2025)

ABOUT ONEX:

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Data Scientist Intern/Co-op to support data-driven projects, conduct exploratory data analysis, and contribute to the development of predictive models. This individual will work closely with experienced data scientists and support our ONCAP investment professionals. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data science and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Assist in collecting, processing, and cleaning large datasets from various sources.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover insights and trends.
• Support the development and evaluation of machine learning models and algorithms.
• Work with generative AI models and APIs, including Chat GPT, to develop innovative solutions.
• Utilize Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver actionable insights.
• Create data visualizations and reports to communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in data science and machine learning.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
• Experience with data manipulation and analysis using libraries such as pandas, NumPy, or similar.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Basic knowledge of SQL and database querying.
• Proficiency in Power BI for data visualization.
• Experience with generative AI models and APIs, particularly Chat GPT.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
• Independent thinker and intellectually curious.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS: 

• 8 Month Co-op: September 3, 2024 – May 2, 2025 (flexible)
• Salary: CA $1200/week
• Minimum of 2 days per week in office required
• Location: Downtown Toronto
