In June 2026, we raised a $20 million Series A led by Payward, the parent company of Kraken, valuing Onyx at $220 million less than one year after emerging from beta. Our team comes from Jane Street, DraftKings, Robinhood, xAI, SIG, HRT, and Harvard.

We’re building Onyx in New York with a small team, serious momentum, and no interest in moving slowly. The product is live. The market is growing. The category is still ours to define.

The Role.

We’re hiring a Data Scientist to turn the activity happening across Onyx into better products, sharper decisions, and a deeper understanding of our customers and markets.

At Onyx, data science sits close to the product. You’ll work directly with engineering, product, growth, trading, and operations to understand user behavior, improve the trading experience, and turn complex datasets into clear decisions.

This is a high-ownership role that spans product analytics, experimentation, modeling, data quality, and automation. Some systems already exist. Others are still a blank page. Your work will be visible, your responsibilities will grow quickly, and you’ll have a meaningful voice in how data science is built at Onyx.

What You’ll Own:

• Analyze user behavior across acquisition, onboarding, deposits, trading, retention, and engagement.
• Build models and analyses that explain conversion, market participation, liquidity, and customer value.
• Develop dashboards and reporting that provide visibility into product and business performance.
• Define the metrics used to evaluate features, markets, and growth initiatives.
• Design experiments, measure results, and translate findings into product recommendations.
• Identify unusual patterns, data-quality issues, operational risks, and opportunities for automation.
• Build reliable datasets and analytical workflows using SQL and Python.
• Partner with engineering to improve data collection, event tracking, and analytics infrastructure.
• Work with product, growth, trading, operations, and leadership on high-priority business questions.
• Help establish the tools, processes, and standards for data science at Onyx.

You’ll Do Well Here If You:

• Have strong analytical skills and experience using data to solve ambiguous problems.
• Are highly proficient in SQL and Python.
• Have worked with large, complex, or real-time datasets.
• Understand experimentation, statistical analysis, and product metrics.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bring strong product judgment and curiosity about user behavior.
• Can move between analytics, modeling, data quality, automation, and product strategy.
• Work independently and take ownership in a fast-moving environment.

Even Better If You Have:

• Experience in consumer technology, fintech, trading, gaming, sports, crypto, or marketplaces.
• Analyzed funnels, retention, cohorts, unit economics, or customer lifetime value.
• Familiarity with market structure, pricing, liquidity, risk, or trading behavior.
• Built data pipelines, internal tools, or automated monitoring systems.
• Experience with visualization tools, experimentation platforms, and modern data warehouses.
• Worked with event-level product data or high-frequency transactional datasets.
• Have an interest in prediction markets and how people form views about future events.

• This role is based in our NoHo, Manhattan office, with core in-office days Tuesday through Thursday.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Onyx is unable to provide employment sponsorship for this position.

Compensation and Benefits:

• The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000–$200,000, depending on experience, impact, and scope, plus target bonus and equity.
