About the Role

The VP, Agency Development will drive demand and revenue by forging strategic relationships with top U.S. agencies and advertisers to expand adoption of OpenAP’s advanced advertising solutions. This role requires deep industry expertise, a consultative approach to agency growth, and the ability to navigate complex holding company and independent agency structures.  In order to accelerate the next phase of OpenAP’s development, increase penetration and further scale, this VP will be tasked with driving OpenAP adoption through product knowledge, enablement and innovation.

OpenAP is seeking an individual contributor who is passionate about shaping and driving strategic relationships with the largest agencies and brands in the U.S. Reporting directly to the SVP, Head of Agency Development, this VP will cultivate relationships directly with marketers as well as media agencies (holding companies, independents) and will represent and accurately communicate demand-side interests, needs and opportunities cross-functionally within OpenAP. This position requires a deep understanding of the complexity of the data-driven advanced advertising landscape (targeting, activation, measurement, workflow, and identity) and the ability to operate effectively at the intersection of traditional media and advertising technology.

Possessing a naturally consultative and educational approach, candidates must be excellent communicators, have transactional as well as business development experience with agencies and advertisers, and must be able to earn trust with stakeholders across the OpenAP organization. In addition, candidates should be comfortable with complex data sets and have the ability to simplify solutions for customers. A strong knowledge of the data-driven and streaming landscape is a necessity; programmatic subject matter expertise is a plus. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to work autonomously, and goal-oriented in order to drive towards OpenAP’s ambitious growth plans.

 

Responsibilities

Revenue Growth

  • Drive data-driven linear, alternative currency, streaming and cross-platform execution from pitch to pay
  • Develop partnership frameworks with media agencies to facilitate incremental demand opportunities across audience-targeted media executions
  • Secure long term annual (and multi-year) preferred agreements
  • Serve as the primary product, data, and transactional media expert across all facets of agency partnership and new business efforts, including macro level strategic holding company growth, individual account development, and advertiser direct engagement.  Lead analysis on holding company adoption and strategic growth opportunities
  • Play a key role in preparation, delivery, and follow-through of top-to-top agency and advertiser meetings
  • Work directly with Head of Agency Development to expand engagement across holding company and independent agency teams that do not currently transact with OpenAP audiences

Client Partner Relations

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with media agencies, Fortune 500 brands, and SMB, serving as a neutral, objective, and trusted counselor and advisor
  • Build and manage a detailed engagement strategy for agency and marketer relationships, including conducting business reviews
  • Act as the primary advocate for agency clients internally, ensuring their needs and feedback inform and influence product and service innovations

Strategy Development

  • Develop and execute a customer-led strategy for the growth of the data driven media agency & brand advertiser business
  • Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for innovation 
  • Liaise internally and externally to identify transformative opportunities for agency and advertiser direct partnerships

Marketplace Education

  • Evangelize and educate agency teams and brand marketers on advanced advertising marketplaces, including emerging and existing advanced advertising suppliers, capabilities, platforms, workflows, products, technologies, measurement, identity and attribution offerings
  • Lead education and enablement of key agency functions, including hosting agency-wide events

Data Translation & Analysis

  • Translate data strategy into digestible and actionable insights and strategic plans and recommendations, ensuring total clarity and confidence
  • Apply strategic, technical, and analytical skills to solve client business issues, synthesizing recommendations into compelling proposals and solutions

Prioritization

  • Manage multiple concurrent initiatives and competing priorities efficiently and simultaneously, maintaining optimal communication flow across disciplines and cross-functional teams

Internal Collaboration

  • The ideal candidate is skilled at driving towards consensus and working harmoniously across Publisher-facing teams, Partnerships & Business Development, Customer Success, Audience Solutions, Measurement/Data Science, Product, Legal and Finance

Industry Representation

  • Attend and represent the company at relevant advanced advertising industry events and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant sales experience in advanced advertising sales: Advanced TV, Data-Driven, Alternative Currency, Identity, Measurement, Programmatic Platforms & Automation, Audience-targeted Connected TV Sales
  • Demand and Revenue Enablement: Proven track record of managing senior-level agency relationships and driving revenue growth with new and existing customers. Previous experience independently managing 9 and 10 figure budgets is required
  • Industry Knowledge & Subject Matter Expertise: Strong understanding of data-driven Advertising Technology, Advanced Television, and Connected TV. Relationship Management: Pre-established relationships with media agencies, broadcast TV buyers, Digital, Precision/Programmatic agency teams, and Video investment teams is required.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strategic thinker with exceptional negotiation and consultative skills. Ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations and problem sets.  Participation in/deep understanding of the television Upfront and Scatter marketplaces are required
  • Analytics & Insights: Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; capable of presenting autonomously and with conviction to senior executives and clients. Masterful ability to articulate an idea as well as distill complex concepts into simple principles
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Ability to create net new, bespoke, but scalable offerings and capabilities, as well as to credibly suggest feature enhancements and process improvements to super serve agency and advertiser needs
