What You’ll Need 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA certification required
  • 7+ years of experience in corporate taxes, including both provision and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and international tax laws as well as US GAAP
  • Demonstrated expertise in common book-to-tax differences, such as SBC, Section 162(m), UNICAP, Section 174, and related adjustments
  • Proficient in reviewing and preparing state apportionment and related state tax adjustments
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external partners
  • High level of ethics, integrity, and professional judgment

About the Role 

Opendoor is looking for a Tax Manager with strong technical tax expertise and compliance and tax reporting experience to join our lean, high-performing Tax team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, analytical professional who thrives in complexity and wants to make a tangible impact in a fast-paced, publicly traded environment.

You’ll lead critical aspects of our tax reporting and compliance processes, partner cross-functionally on strategic tax planning initiatives, and help drive continuous improvements across the tax function. This role offers broad exposure to federal, state, and indirect tax, and requires a solid foundation in U.S. GAAP and technical tax concepts.

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead end-to-end preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations, valuation allowance analysis, and preparation of related financial statement footnote disclosures
  • Oversee the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns, estimates, and extensions for consolidated, combined, and standalone entities
  • Manage responses to federal and state audit inquiries and tax notices, including preparing supporting documentation and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead tax planning initiatives, research, and analysis to develop efficient, compliant tax strategies
  • Prepare or review tax-related journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and other month-end close activities
  • Monitor tax law changes and provide guidance to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain and enhance internal tax controls, recommending and implementing process improvements
  • Lead the R&D tax credit process, partnering with internal teams and external advisors to identify qualifying activities and ensure proper documentation
  • Draft technical memos and support materials to substantiate tax positions
  • Collaborate with the Tax Director and cross-functional teams on various tax initiatives and special projects across the business

Bonus points if you have 

  • Experience in Big 4 public accounting or a publicly traded company
  • Master’s degree in Taxation, JD, or LLM with a focus in Tax
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems

Compensation: 

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several  U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The U.S. pay range for this position is $130,400 - $163,000 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process. We also offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, 12 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, basic life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
