Software Engineer, Corporate Engineering
About the Role
At Opendoor our goal is to build the biggest, most trusted housing platform and set a new standard for how people move. We've combined our deep, proprietary data and operational expertise with the power of artificial intelligence to make online home selling and buying radically simple.
Our Corporate Engineering team is building intelligent automation platforms that eliminate manual work and enable Opendoor to operate at software-first velocity. By January 2027, our goal is to eliminate 90% of IT requests by building AI agents that provision access, resolve issues, and demonstrate compliance before employees even need to ask.
What You'll Do
- Build intelligent agents and automation that eliminate manual toil—provisioning access, configuring devices, onboarding employees, and maintaining compliance without human intervention.
- Architect integrations across corporate platforms (Okta, HRIS, MDM, SaaS management) to create seamless automated employee lifecycle experiences.
- Partner with stakeholders across HR, Finance, Security, and Operations to understand their workflows, identify automation opportunities, and deliver software solutions that increase their velocity.
- Build security guardrails and observability into corporate infrastructure that enables teams to move safely and fast.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps/GitOps, and software engineering best practices to corporate systems.
Tech Stack
- Languages: Python, Go, Ruby, Terraform
- Corporate Platforms: Okta, AWS, Google Workspace, Slack, NetSuite, Rippling, Jamf, CrowdStrike
- Engineering: AWS, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- AI Tools: Claude, OpenAI, agent frameworks, workflow automation
What You'll Need
- Deep conviction that AI and automation should eliminate manual work humans shouldn't be doing anyway. You're excited to experiment rapidly with AI agents, LLM integrations, and intelligent workflow orchestration.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with Python, Go, or similar languages, with strong skills in API development, systems integration, and automation platforms.
- Strong experience with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred) including serverless architectures, infrastructure automation, and CI/CD pipeline development.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and modern DevOps practices including GitOps, automated testing, and observability.
- Proven problem-solving ability to understand complex business workflows, identify automation opportunities, and design elegant technical solutions.
- Humility and genuine curiosity—you're as excited to automate employee onboarding as you are to architect distributed systems, and you see eliminating mundane work as deeply meaningful engineering. You genuinely enjoy understanding user needs, partnering with non-technical stakeholders, and building software that makes their work easier.
Bonus Points For
- Experience with corporate IT APIs and platforms (Okta, Google Workspace, MDM systems, HRIS, financial systems)
- Background in site reliability engineering, platform engineering, or internal tools development
- Track record of building self-service portals, chatbots, or AI-powered automation
- M.S. in Computer Science
