People Operations Lead

Bengaluru (India)

About OpenFX

OpenFX is building next-generation cross-border payment infrastructure for institutions. We process billions in monthly payment volume across five jurisdictions and we're scaling fast. We've raised over $170M in venture capital, hold money transmission licenses in the US, and are actively pursuing regulatory authorizations in the EU, UK, UAE, Brazil, and beyond. Our team is ~100 people today across Bangalore, Amsterdam, London, Miami, and Dubai, and we expect to roughly double this year.

This is not a typical fintech. We operate at the intersection of global banking infrastructure, multi-jurisdictional compliance, and real-time settlement systems. Every new jurisdiction we enter requires local presence, local hiring, and local employment compliance. Our Bangalore hub is our largest engineering center and a critical node in how we operate globally.

The Role

We're hiring a People Operations Lead to own and build the people operations function with a strong anchor in our Bangalore hub. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be responsible for designing and running the core people operations infrastructure — onboarding, offboarding, employment compliance, benefits administration, HRIS management, employee relations, and performance frameworks — with a particular focus on getting India operations to a best-in-class standard while supporting our global footprint.

You would report to the COO and work closely with the Head of People Operations & Talent (once hired) as well as every functional leader in the company. In the near term, you will be the most senior people ops person on the ground in Bangalore, and the team and leadership will rely on you to be the operational backbone of how we manage our people.

This role requires someone who has built and scaled people operations before. You should have 10+ years of experience, with meaningful depth in India employment law, HR compliance, and people operations at a company that was scaling quickly. If you've only operated in steady-state environments or in a single-country context, this will be a stretch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end people operations for the Bangalore hub and support global people ops processes across the US, EU, UK, and UAE.
  • Design and implement structured onboarding and offboarding programs that work across geographies.
  • Manage the HRIS (Rippling) rollout and ongoing administration for India, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Build and maintain employment compliance frameworks for India, including labor law, benefits, leave policies, and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and operationalize performance management processes, including review cycles, feedback mechanisms, and calibration support.
  • Partner with legal and finance on employment-related matters including contractor-to-employee conversions, entity setup, and benefits benchmarking.
  • Serve as the go-to person for employee relations issues in the Bangalore hub, handling sensitive situations with discretion and good judgment.
  • Build the foundational people analytics — headcount tracking, attrition analysis, engagement surveys — to inform leadership decisions.

What We Are Looking For

Must-haves:

  • 10+ years of experience in people operations or HR, with significant time spent at high-growth technology companies.
  • Deep expertise in India employment law, HR compliance, and statutory requirements.
  • Experience managing or implementing an HRIS (Rippling experience is a plus).
  • Track record of building people ops processes from early stage — you've been the person who designed the onboarding, wrote the policies, and built the frameworks, not just maintained them.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. We are async-heavy and globally distributed. You need to be effective in writing.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy. We will give you a charter and access to every leader in the company. We will not give you a playbook.

What helps you stand out:

  • Experience supporting people operations across multiple countries (US, EU, UK, UAE in addition to India).
  • Prior experience at a fintech or financial services company navigating regulatory complexity.
  • Experience with PEO/EOR arrangements and contractor compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with Rippling as an HRIS platform.
  • Experience building people analytics and reporting frameworks from scratch.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package benchmarked to your location.
  • Equity in a rapidly growing company.
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-paced startup at the forefront of fintech innovation.
  • Opportunity to make a significant impact on global financial infrastructure.
  • Collaborative work culture with emphasis on personal and professional growth.

Compensation

Competitive base salary benchmarked to Bangalore market rates, plus equity. We'll share specific ranges during the process.
