Staff Software Engineer - Backend - Cloud

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking someone to build out and scale Operant’s data analytics and ML/AI capabilities that helps secure modern cloud native applications. If you are excited by the idea of being an early engineer at a startup that is poised to lead the next wave of application security products, we would love to hear from you.

‍Responsibilities:

• Build and help scale Operant’s data ingestion, querying, and analytics layers that actively secure cloud native apps
• Design and build scalable APIs that help customers understand their security posture at scale 
• Develop scalable and resilient code that meets rapidly increasing scale requirements of our customer deployments and end users
• Embed security best practices within code development
• Think through well-reasoned architectural choices to meet stability and performance, while being agile
• Document and communicate design decisions with the broader team to support a remote, asynchronous work culture
• Function independently while being able to make technical choices in the presence of unknowns
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering leaders
• Work closely with customers through MVP onboarding
• Take active interest in understanding customer problems while building features in an iterative manner

Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience of hands-on microservices based backend development in a fast paced engineering org 
• Advanced to expert level experience with data systems - databases, time-series analytics, data streaming technologies
• Experience with Golang/ Kubernetes/ cloud platforms is preferred
• Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently as part of a remote team
• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or similar equivalent industry experience is preferred

Bonus Points:

• Awareness of Cloud Tech stacks (AWS/ GCP/ Azure)
• Knowledge of Operating Systems /Network Security fundamentals
• Knowledge of building applications that leverage LLMs or other AI models

Work Hours & Location:

• Operant is a remote-first company and welcomes qualified applicants from across the US and Canada.
• This position will require you to be available during core PST business hours (9am-5pm) and to adjust schedules occasionally based on customer and business needs including business travel, client meeting/call schedules, and team off-sites.
