
Grossing Technician
Multi-site Dermatology Group Seeks Grossing Technician
Optima Dermatology is recruiting an experienced full time Grossing Technician to join our growing Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics group in our Pathology Laboratory based in Portsmouth, NH.
Responsibilities:
- Daily gross examination of daily biopsies received in the laboratory, embedding, microtomy and special staining (Histochemistry).
- Before grossing, reviews requisition and specimen vial to verify identification.
- Ensure operational compliance with the laboratory’s SOPs and Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure compliance with all local, federal and CLIA regulations. Maintain appropriate standards to meet all licensing and regulatory requirements and uphold company policies and integrity.
- Exercise all laboratory safety precautions/procedures and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Participates in all equipment QC including daily measurements, equipment maintenance, hazardous and biohazardous waste management as required.
- Maintains gross room in an organized and clean matter.
- Ability to trouble shoot any discrepancies between requisition and actual tissue.
- Ability to communicate with the Dermatopathologist on any grossing issues.
- When required, fulfil the job duties for the Histotechnologist, Histotechnician and Pathology lab Aide.
- Assist with training new employees.
Qualifications:
The minimum training/experience required for high complexity personnel is as follows:
- Bachelor of Science or associate degree in a chemical and/or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution
OR
- Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following:
- 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
AND
- Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
