Key Responsibilities 

 

Join Optimal Care as a Billing Specialist and become an essential member of our billing team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all claims and payments.  As a Billing Specialist, you'll be responsible for the accurate and timely completion and submission of Medicare, Medicaid, private payer, and patient billing, along with accounts receivable tracking and follow-up. Reporting to the Billing Manager, you'll play a critical role in maintaining our revenue cycle by ensuring every claim is processed correctly and every account is monitored closely.  This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your healthcare billing expertise in a supportive team environment. You'll work with cutting-edge billing systems, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, and gain hands-on experience with diverse payer requirements while contributing to the financial health of our organization.

What You'll Do

Accurate Billing & Claims Processing

  • Enter patient billing data accurately, including visit charges and supply charges, into the information system
  • Process and bill Medicare, Medicaid, private payer, and patient claims in accordance with payer requirements and organizational policy
  • Maintain complete and accurate billing and accounts receivable records
  • Prepare remittances for data entry with precision and attention to detail

Accounts Receivable Management

  • Monitor accounts receivable to support timely collection of payments
  • Assist with collection efforts by resubmitting bills to overdue accounts
  • Alert Billing Manager of seriously overdue accounts requiring escalation
  • Track payment patterns and identify potential collection issues

Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist in preparation of monthly billing and accounts receivable reports
  • Maintain accurate Medicare and Medicaid billing analysis reports
  • Provide data and insights that support billing performance monitoring
  • Document billing activities and maintain organized records

Quality Assurance & Communication

  • Alert management team members about late or missing documents required for billing
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, payers, and other customers
  • Ensure all billing activities comply with payer requirements and organizational policies
  • Support billing team goals through collaborative problem-solving

Special Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Perform specific projects relating to billing, data entry, and computer operations as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing processes and efficiency
  • Stay current on payer requirements and billing regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information at all times

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of healthcare-related billing experience
  • Home care or hospice care billing experience preferred

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree
  • Homecare Homebase experience

Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional accuracy in data entry and claim processing
  • Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer billing requirements
  • Strong ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Comfortable with billing software and information systems
  • Able to identify issues and work toward timely resolution

Work Environment

This is an office-based position with minimal travel. The role requires moderate to high adaptability as you'll need to make frequent adjustments to respond to billing priorities, payer requirements, and organizational needs. You'll work in a collaborative team environment focused on accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional service.

Hours 

  • 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday 

Pay Range

$20 - $24 USD
