ABOUT THE GROWTH TEAM
The 12+ person Growth team is responsible for shaping Orchestra’s new business and growth strategy, focusing on integrating capabilities across firms, driving new business outreach and providing expert counsel on how to shape business growth for new and current clients across Orchestra and Orchestra companies.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Orchestra is seeking a Business Development Associate to join our Growth team. This role will support the Growth Team in providing business insights, strategic guidance and tactical support across the firm’s corporate, technology, crisis, advocacy and nonprofit-focused client teams. As part of this work, the associate will identify business development needs and provide key resources and support, such as template development and dissemination, case study development and maintenance, and provide strategic guidance on how to win work based on standardized materials. This role will require strong project management and writing skills, as well as an ability to deftly maneuver diverse issue areas. A background in business development is preferred, but not required.
Please note this is not a sales role and cold calls are not involved. Rather we are looking for business strategists who can help best position staff for sustained relationships with key clients, develop winning proposals and create strong processes and infrastructure.
Role location: This role is based in our New York, N.Y. office on a hybrid basis. Orchestra staff are in office 3 days per week.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
As a Business Development Associate on the Growth team, you will...
- Support on executing business development strategies across the firm’s diverse practice areas (including corporate, technology, sports, crisis, labor, advocacy and philanthropy)
- Develop and maintain resources and materials such as BD templates and case studies
- Shape BD proposals and capability decks by assessing and leveraging standardized materials
- Help maintain databases to keep firm leadership up to date on business opportunities
- Provide capacity and support multiple projects at once, engaging with many different people and personalities, coordinating between teams, researching new projects and facilitating the drafting of tailor-made, engaging written content
- Be a key strategic member of this dynamic, scaling team under the Vice President of Business Development
- Interface with the client teams and support on client pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs
- Get grounded in and leverage AI to streamline standard business development processes and materials development
Essential skills
- 2-3+ years of professional experience, across relevant backgrounds such as public relations, legal, professional services or business sectors
- Experience in business development, including drafting new business proposals and producing tailored research (note: this is not a sales job)
- Excellent project management, with the ability to prioritize work streams and track progress across multiple teams
- Expert multitasker. Project briefs change, deadlines move. It’s the nature of the business, and not only can you keep up with our fast-paced process, you thrive off of it. You have an ability to handle multiple projects at once, work quickly and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail
- Writes and researches well. Your background in research and written communication includes ensuring every stone is overturned and extensive experience developing sharp, compelling content
Preferred skills
- Understanding of AI tools and willingness to learn and adapt AI platforms to Growth team needs
- Experience in client relations—whether it’s been in professional services, political campaigns or more, we appreciate candidates from all professional backgrounds and are excited to incorporate your myriad of experiences into our work
- Strong proficiency in Google Docs and Google Slides
WORKING AT ORCHESTRA
Compensation philosophy: Orchestra offers competitive industry rate salary bands with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals. We regularly review and adjust our compensation structure as needed to ensure equity across teams and levels.
Salary (commensurate with experience and skills): $65,000
