Position Description

Origis Energy is seeking an experienced Director Technical Operations to be a core part of an IPP focused services leadership team, providing crucial knowledge, insight and reporting to both Operations and Maintenance and Asset Management to proactively support the highest possible levels of safety, quality and operational reliability.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director EPC and O&M, this role acts as key bridge between field operations and asset management managing the ROC, Performance, Engineering and Compliance. It ensures that the ROC is a full and proactive part of the operational safety chain and that all operational reporting and procedures are both standardized and as automated as possible. Additionally, the role must ensure that the Engineering team are diligently working to provide the field teams clear actionable recommendations to support the overall business drive for safe reliable performance with OE sites having a plan for 95% operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

General

  • Act as a role model of the desired culture and behaviors to work cross functionally to help ensure operational excellence in safety and quality is embedded into business.
  • Build organizational capability and by ensuring they have the right team to deliver the organizational goals.
  • Work with field operations and training team to ensure rapid onboarding of new sites is undertaken to the highest standards of safety and quality.
  • Create a standard to embed all key lessons learned.

 ROC Operations

  • Oversee all aspects of ROC operations.
  • Provide automation and coding experience to be able to automate ROC operations and internal and third-party reporting to the highest sensible standards.
  • Create and standardize all alarm stacks and create general companywide alarm-based procedures
  • Introduce and standardize all control room procedures.
  • Ensure all ROC teams are fully integrated with field operations
  • Ensure ROC and field teams standardized with radio telephony procedures.
  • Establish, optimize and automate standard procedures for site operation functions (ex: wind & hail stowage, etc).
  • Ensure standard Scada remote breaker control is standardized across the fleet.
  • Together with the training team and field operations ensure 3-way communications together with standard NATO phonetic alphabet and use of twenty-four-hour clock is standardized across every site and within the ROC.

Compliance

  • Establish and maintain all NERC Medium and High Impact Compliance standards
  • Ensure the ROC is fully complaint with Medium Impact and is fully ready for High Impact standards.
  • Automate all NERC compliance reporting
  • Keep all organizational updates to align against compliance and standardization.
  • Working with training team create a ROC operator onboarding and training program.

Performance

  • Oversee and direct team to in developing automated information systems for all companywide utilization and monthly operational reporting
  • Develop automated information systems for all external customer monthly reporting.
  • Develop automated information systems for predictive reporting.
  • Develop automated information systems for predictive maintenance
  • Support all field teams with detailed troubleshooting expertise
  • Create with field operations both fleet-wide and annual maintenance scheduling aiming to reduce idle time and deliver operational performance standards
  • Ensure engineering is supporting field operations with clear plans to drive 95% operational performance.

Engineering

  • Build and establish a hub of engineering resources and subject matter experts to support field operations including but not limited to High Voltage, Switching, SCADA and Inverters

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience within remote control monitoring, performance engineering, or technical operations environment; solar and/or battery storage highly preferred
  • Deep understanding of Operations & Maintenance business platform for power generation portfolio and should come from a field or technical operations background
  • Expected to be the main source of technical excellence regarding ROC operations
  • Proven success in people leadership and management through alignment of organizational vision and core values
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or relevant; MBA or advanced degree preferred
