Position Summary

Orr Group’s services are split between four practice areas: Advisory Services, Capacity Building, Donor Engagement, and Talent Management. The Advisory Services practice area works to create strategies and tactics that advance organizational goals and objectives. This practice area’s service offerings include strategic planning, development planning, case development, planned giving assessments, and campaign planning.

The position has two primary focuses. This Senior Director, Advisory Services manages the Advisory Services practice area, leading and driving strategy, bringing in new business, and providing day-to-day management for the Advisory Services team. Additionally, this position will also lead client teams, developing and implementing strategies to help our clients meet their goals.

Senior Directors may manage a combination of regional, national, and international clients. Depending on client needs, this position may require that up to 50% of time be spent on a client site. Candidates based in the Washington, DC or New York City areas are preferred; candidates in Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Miami, FL, or Philadelphia, PA are also encouraged to apply. Remote candidates will also be considered; remote staff are required to travel to an Orr Group office or client once per quarter

This position will serve as the Advisory Services Practice Area Lead who oversees service delivery, resource development, sustainability, and team management for the practice area.

Responsibilities include:

Service Delivery

  • Manage the delivery of quality services to clients, including the continued development of new and improved offerings.
  • Collaborate with Impact Officers to build standard scopes of work and cost calculators to inform core deliverables and team infrastructure across services offerings.
  • Conduct quarterly review with Impact Officers /Growth Team to analyze client profitability and inform future scope and staffing structures.

Resource Development

  • Identify best-in-class examples of deliverables and tools to guide and direct the work.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures to inform out to lead and manage client teams.
  • Work in partnership with the Client Experience Leadership on Learning & Development resources and trainings.

Practice Area Sustainability

  • Work in partnership with Client Experience Leadership and the Head of Finance to keep the Practice Area budgets updated with revenue and expense details.
  • Review upcoming projects and conduct financial forecasting projections to inform staff hiring decisions.
  • Follow trends within the non-profit sector and the Practice Area to identify areas for additional service offerings.

Team Management

  • Liaise with Impact Officers and Executive Leadership to identify how client teams are going, what additional resources may be needed, and opportunities for development withing your team.
  • Serve as the people manager and leader for members of the Advisory Services team.

The Senior Director also serves as the leader on client projects and ensures high quality client service delivery. Each project at Orr Group is specially tailored and designed for the needs of that particular client. Generally, Senior Directors oversee project management, guide day-to-day account operations, drive teamwork strategies and oversee the management of the team, and serve as the principal liaison with the client. They actively lead the work of the project as well as the data collection and analysis, report writing, and client presentations.

 

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Communicating effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including board members, C-suite, staff, donors, and outside advisors
  • Collaborating on client work with Orr Group team members, managing up and down
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations and fulfillment of contracted projects
  • Managing project teams and coordinating project work for others; serving as mentor and coach to team members
  • Synthesizing and presenting information to clients with a focus on distilling major themes from in-depth analysis
  • Discovering solutions and employing new and innovative ideas

Qualifications

  • 10-15+ years of nonprofit sector experience with a focus in any or all of the following:
    • Assessing the feasibility and creating actionable plans for fundraising campaigns
    • Evaluating the performance of fundraising departments and creating actionable plans for growth and efficiency
    • Aiding in the planning, building, and execution of organizational strategic plans
    • Facilitating and developing compelling fundraising messaging, such as cases for support
    • Assessing and growing the effectiveness of planned giving programs
    • Project management skills
    • Stakeholder engagement with non-profit leadership
  • Direct experience creating donor strategies in addition to departmental or organizational strategies
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize data; ability to use that data to tell a compelling, convincing, and clear story for relevant stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to train, onboard, manage, and lead a team
  • Knowledge of "best practices" in fundraising and nonprofit management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including strong attention to detail and editing skills
  • Ability to handle multiple clients and projects simultaneously
  • Strong strategic acumen and time/project management and organization skills, and the ability to remain flexible and effective under pressure in a fast-paced environment; PMP certificate a plus
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to lead a team toward a shared goal
  • Familiarity with AI fundraising and productivity tools or a desire to learn
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Flexibility to work long and varying hours (when needed) to meet fixed deadlines

Additional Information

The base salary starts at one hundred thirty-five thousand dollars annually, with discretionary bonus potential up to thirty-five thousand dollars annually; subject to adjustment based on geolocation.
