Director of Product, Provider Data Management

New York, New York, United States

Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Director of Product, Provider Data Management to join our Product team.

Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.

About the role:

The Network pillar enables Oscar to build, maintain, and operate a high-quality provider network that members can access with confidence. Accurate, timely, and reliable provider data is foundational to that work: it affects how providers are brought into the network, credentialed, contracted, represented in directories, and made ready to serve members and process claims.

The Director of Product Management, Provider Data Management, will own the product strategy, roadmap, and delivery across the end-to-end provider-data lifecycle. This includes provider ingestion, reconciliation and data pipeline capabilities; credentialing workflows; the path from contract signature to claim-ready status; provider data maintenance; provider data quality; and the reliable distribution of provider data to downstream systems and experiences.

In this role, you will manage and develop a team of Product Managers and partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Network Management, Network Operations, Provider Servicing, Credentialing, Contracting, and other downstream stakeholders. You will translate complex operational needs into scalable products and data-platform capabilities that make provider data trustworthy, explainable, and easier to manage at scale.

You will turn fragmented, business-critical provider-data workflows into a reliable platform that directly improves network readiness, claims outcomes, and member/provider experience.

You will report into a Vice President, Product Management.

Work Location:

This position is based in our New York City office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule. #LI-Hybrid

Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role is: $180,504.00 - $236,911.50 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and communicate a clear multi-year product vision and strategy for Provider Data Management, aligned to Network business priorities and Oscar’s broader operating strategy.
  • Own the product portfolio spanning provider ingestion, provider data reconciliation, provider pipeline, credentialing, contract-to-claim-ready workflows, provider-data maintenance, and downstream distribution.
  • Establish measurable outcomes for provider-data accuracy, time from contract signature to claim readiness, incorrect denials for credentialed entities, downstream configuration issues, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish clear data governance, ownership, quality standards, lineage, and controls for provider data across its lifecycle.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Product Managers; establish effective product practices, decision-making forums, and operating rhythms across the portfolio.
  • Serve as a hands-on product leader: develop and empower the Product Management team while personally leading the portfolio’s most consequential strategic, technical, and cross-functional decisions.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Network Management and Provider Servicing to translate network strategy, operating policies, frontline needs, and service insights into scalable product capabilities.
  • Partner with Claims and downstream teams to reduce provider-data-related incorrect denials involving credentialed entities.
  • Own product strategy, portfolio prioritization, and delivery decisions for Provider Data Management; partner closely with the Director of Network Management and Provider Servicing on business policies, operational requirements, change readiness, and adoption.
  • Partner with Engineering and Data Science teams to set direction for data models, ingestion and ETL pipelines, entity and relationship logic, data-quality controls, lineage, reconciliation logic, and platform reliability.
  • Drive the modernization and simplification of fragmented workflows, reducing manual intervention, downstream configuration defects, and time required to identify and resolve provider-data issues.
  • Make complex data decisions transparent to operational partners by improving explainability, visibility, and operator control over how provider data is reconciled, maintained, and surfaced.
  • Ensure appropriate self-service capabilities enable business operators to safely manage approved configuration and workflow changes without unnecessary engineering intervention.
  • Build alignment among senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders; clearly communicate strategy, tradeoffs, risks, progress, and results.
  • Use qualitative insight and quantitative analysis to prioritize investments, evaluate performance, and evolve product strategy.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including ownership of complex, multi-team product areas.
  • 5+ years of people-management experience, including coaching, performance management, and development of Product Managers.
  • Experience leading strategy and execution for technically complex products with significant data, platform, systems-integration, or operational-workflow components.
  • Demonstrated ability to define meaningful product and operational metrics, use data to make decisions, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Experience partnering effectively with engineering, data, design, operations, and senior business leaders in a highly cross-functional environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to varied audiences.
  • Ability to set direction amid ambiguity, make principled prioritization decisions, and deliver results across interdependent teams.
  • Experience with provider-facing healthcare products or payer-provider operations.
  • Familiarity with provider directory management, credentialing, claims processing and disputes, provider onboarding, and/or provider servicing.

Bonus points:

  • Experience with provider-facing healthcare products or payer-provider operations.
  • Experience with provider directory management, credentialing, contracting, claims processing and disputes, provider onboarding, and/or provider servicing, healthcare operations, or another similarly regulated and operationally complex domain.
  • Experience leading a product portfolio through significant modernization, consolidation, or reliability improvement.
  • Demonstrated success building scalable operational tools and self-service capabilities that reduce manual work while maintaining appropriate controls.
  • Experience developing product strategy that contributes to broader company strategy and business performance.
