Revenue Cycle Specialist

The Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Revenue Cycle Specialist to manage the Accounts Receivable (AR) and Denial Management processes within our billing operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with our Revenue Cycle Manager and other members of the Revenue Cycle team to identify, analyze, and resolve claim denials and outstanding balances. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maximizing revenue and ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement from all payers.
What you’ll do:
Accounts Receivable (AR) Management
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely payment from payers.
- Analyze aging reports and prioritize AR follow-up based on payer trends, aging buckets, and balance.
- Conduct payer outreach via phone or portal to resolve pending or unpaid claims.
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials accurately when required.
Denial Management
- Investigate and appeal denied or underpaid claims, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Identify root causes of denials (e.g., coding issues, eligibility, authorization) and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all denial resolution and appeal efforts.
- Collaborate with your team and cross-functional teams to correct and resubmit denied claims as needed.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with payer representatives to resolve issues, stay updated on policy changes, and escalate concerns as appropriate.
Patient Collections
- Monitor and follow up on patient balances, ensuring timely and professional communication regarding outstanding amounts.
- Work with patients to resolve billing questions, provide statements, and offer payment plan options where applicable.
- Document all collection efforts in accordance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
Reporting & Communication
- Generate and analyze weekly and monthly AR and denial reports to track performance and trends.
- Report recurring issues or payer policy changes to leadership and relevant departments.
- Participate in payer audits, compliance checks, and internal reviews as needed.
Who You Are:
Education & Experience
- Must be based in the United States.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in medical billing, AR follow-up, patient collections, and denial management.
- Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer reimbursement guidelines.
- Prior experience in a health tech company or startup environment in a similar role is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Solid understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle, claim adjudication, and denial resolution processes.
- Advanced knowledge of AR best practices and a proven ability to optimize the collections process.
- Proficiency in medical billing and EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, Kareo, or similar).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Exceptional asynchronous communication skills, with an ability to convey complex information clearly in writing.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software and technologies quickly.
- Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid U.S.-based environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a results-oriented, autonomous environment.

Compensation Range
$50,000 - $55,000 USD
