Software Engineer - Data Engineering, Otter - Seattle

What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable batch data pipelines using SQLMesh (or equivalents such as DBT) for robust, reliable data delivery.
- Own our OLAP data storage strategy and implement performant solutions for data access.
- Develop and optimize relational data models to support analytical and operational needs.
- Implement and monitor data quality strategies to ensure accuracy and consistency of delivered datasets.
- Build internal platform tooling to streamline pipeline development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Partner closely with business and analytics teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective pipeline logic.
- Promote best practices in batch data engineering, data governance, and infrastructure optimizations.
What we’re looking for
- Experience designing and implementing batch data pipelines with SQLMesh, DBT, or similar frameworks.
- Strong skills in SQL and relational data modeling concepts.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, and/or other languages used for pipeline orchestration and platform tooling.
- Familiarity with data quality approaches and monitoring in modern data platforms.
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work closely with business and technical stakeholders to define logic.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, able to translate complex technical ideas to non-technical audiences.

This role is based in our Seattle office. As a company driven by innovation and continuous change, close collaboration is essential. We’re constantly reimagining our industry, creating new products, and refining our processes, and we do our best work together. That’s why all of our office-based teams work onsite, five days a week.
The base salary range for this role is $167,000 - $230,000
Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.You may also be eligible for equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.
