About the Role

Otto Aviation is seeking a Wing Manufacturing Engineer to support the Flight Test Vehicle (FTV) builds of the Phantom 3000 in Fort Worth, Texas. The manufacturing engineer will also prepare for low-rate initial production (LRIP) and full rate production (FRP) at the Final Assembly Integration and Test (FAIT) Facility, location TBD. 

The Manufacturing Engineer role will contribute to the successful completion of major projects that support strategic priorities and technical objectives for the Phantom 3000 Wing. The Manufacturing Engineer understands advanced manufacturing and assembly technical principles and can develop imaginative manufacturing processes or tooling on advanced designs. The individual possesses manufacturing engineering expertise in manufacturing and assembly technical areas. The individual will represent Manufacturing Engineering as the technical POC on projects, programs and/or cross functional teams.  The individual will manage suppliers and mentor junior engineers on the manufacturing team. 

What You'll Do

  • Perform design for manufacturability (DFM), producibility analysis, and manufacturing trade studies to determine cost effective solutions to complex manufacturing technical objectives for IPT using a variety of data and analysis techniques. 
  • Develop a scope of work, resource estimates, progress metrics, and communication cadence for overall project management to meet mission critical objectives with the support of the Manufacturing Technical Project/Program Manager (TPM).  
  • Identify, report and resolve potential safety and quality hazards/risks.  
  • Ability to author clear and concise manufacturing work instructions. 
  • Works through a disciplined approach in initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing tasks/projects to achieve specific goals aligned to program/IPT/production success criteria.  
  • Work and deliverables are reviewed and checked through team leadership and functional management to adequately meet objectives.  
  • Shares manufacturing technology with teammates and colleagues while positively influencing across functional teams.  
  • Ability to work with domestic and international suppliers and travel to support in person collaboration up to 25%.  
  • Owns implementation of assembly tools and equipment from concept development to final acceptance testing, and preventative maintenance of tooling in production.   
  • Mentors junior manufacturing engineers to develop their talent and accelerate their rate of learning.   
  • Knowledge in two or more manufacturing technologies to include, but not limited to the following:  
  • Aero-structure – wing (preferred) manufacturing and assembly of non-metallic structures, deterministic assembly, precision paint and finish. 
  • Electrical and Mechanical Sub Systems – manufacturing, integration, and installation processes. 
  • Non-metallic (wet) wing manufacturing and assembly processes for Part 23 or Part 25 aircraft - Composite Fabrication (ATL/AFP and RTM and SQRTM experience preferred), machining (composite and metallics), additive manufacturing, fastened and bonded assembly manufacturing processes, product verification, NDI, fuel coating and lightning strike. 
  • Manufacturing Execution Systems - process specifications, CAD/CAM; production planning, material requirements scheduling, and material kitting and handling.  
  • Tool and Equipment Integration – Facility requirements, ergonomics, safety, environmental, automation, robotics, metrology, tool & die fabrication, tool design methodology, determinant tooling & fixtures, loft practices, flat patterning, numerical controlled programming of equipment, tool cutting/addition technology applied to the fabrication and assembly of composites or other systems.  

Who You Are

  • 3-5+ years in aerospace or related manufacturing industry experience with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. BS in engineering or related field preferred. 
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred  
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio and Outlook  
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and assembly  
  • Experience with CATIA 3DX, V5 or V6, and Delmia preferred

Otto Aviation is currently a remote workplace culture, with plans to secure a permanent headquarters for our corporate office in the next 2-3 years.
