About the Role

Otto Aviation is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager – Contractor to join our Safety and Quality Assurance Office. The ideal candidate will establish and lead our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program at our Meacham Airport facility. This role presents a unique opportunity to not only build the EHS framework at our current location but also help scale and implement programs across future company sites as we grow.  The EHS Manager will be responsible for standing up the EHS system from the ground up, including developing procedures, implementing safety initiatives, managing compliance, and serving as the primary contact for internal teams and external regulatory agencies.

This position has significant growth potential. High-performing individuals will have the opportunity to influence the expansion and standardization of the EHS program across future company locations and may be considered for permanent placement or expanded leadership roles within the organization.

The Safety and Quality Assurance Office is responsible for establishing, promoting, and maintaining the highest standards of product safety, regulatory compliance, workplace health and safety, and product quality throughout the design, manufacturing, and operational lifecycle of our aircraft. Operating within a startup environment focused on innovation and growth, the our team develops and manages the Safety Management System (SMS), Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental Health and Safety programs (EHS), auditing, training, operational safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. Who You Are

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS procedures, ensuring effective deployment and adoption across operations.
  • Establish and manage the incident reporting and investigation system, leading root cause analyses and communicating investigation outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Conduct PPE assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments for manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and facility operations.
  • Participate in and support flight test readiness reviews and maintenance readiness evaluations, providing EHS oversight and recommendations.
  • Manage occupational hygiene programs, medical surveillance programs, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs.
  • Oversee Safety Data Sheets (SDS) management systems and maintain a compliant chemical inventory database.
  • Lead the emergency response program, including:

    • Coordinating emergency drills
    • Facilitating emergency response team training and readiness
    • Developing and maintaining emergency management protocols
    • Coordinating emergency communication during site events
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with EHS regulatory agencies, third-party inspectors, and external auditors.
  • Manage and deliver the EHS training program, including content development, training execution, and maintenance of training matrices and records.
  • Support future site EHS setups, advising on new facility operational readiness and ensuring consistent application of EHS standards.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive EHS management experience in manufacturing, aerospace, aviation, or similar environments as well as experience developing and managing EHS training programs.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Hands-on experience conducting job hazard analyses, PPE assessments, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage across multiple teams.
  • Ability to work independently and build programs from the ground up in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
  • Experience supporting flight operations, flight test programs, or prototype manufacturing environments a plus.
  • Professional EHS certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) a plus.
  • Experience working with third-party EHS auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling, SDS databases, and medical surveillance program management.
