About the Role
Otto Aviation is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Engineer (QE) to join our Safety and Quality Assurance Office to support our quality initiatives. This role works closely with the Senior Quality Engineer to implement inspection programs, support procedure development, and ensure quality throughout the flight test vehicle build process. The Quality Engineer will also occasionally support supplier quality engineering initiatives. Significant growth and lateral movement opportunities exist for those seeking to expand into new technical or leadership areas.
The Safety and Quality Assurance Office is responsible for establishing, promoting, and maintaining the highest standards of product safety, regulatory compliance, workplace health and safety, and product quality throughout the design, manufacturing, and operational lifecycle of our aircraft. Operating within a startup environment focused on innovation and growth, the our team develops and manages the Safety Management System (SMS), Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental Health and Safety programs (EHS), auditing, training, operational safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. What You'll Do
- Assist in developing and executing the internal inspection program (incoming, in-process, and final inspection).
- Support key characteristic identification and independent verification planning with Engineering.
- Participate in inspection activities during vehicle builds.
- Support metrology activities, including use of CMM and scanning equipment.
- Assist in managing the NCR system and support corrective action processes.
- Help author and maintain quality system procedures, including inspection, nonconforming material, corrective action, and calibration programs.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues.
- Rotate between internal and external quality activities, including occasional support for supplier quality engineering.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and operational quality enhancements.
Who You Are
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience
- 2-4 years of quality engineering experience in the aerospace or aviation industry
Required Skills
- Knowledge of inspection techniques, measurement methods, and industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Exposure to metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, scanning) preferred.
- Experience supporting corrective action and root cause analysis activities.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and supplier quality concepts (e.g., GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and root cause/corrective action methodologies).
- Experience writing procedures and applying advanced quality planning tools (e.g., PPAP, APQP, FAI).
- Hands-on experience with ERP and quality management systems.
- Preferred: Lead Auditor Certification (AS9100 or ISO 9001) and ASQ certifications (e.g., CQE, CQA).
- Highly desirable: Experience in flight test vehicles, prototype manufacturing, or startups.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to a dynamic, evolving environment.
Where You'll Be
Otto Aviation is currently a remote workplace culture, with plans to secure a permanent headquarters for our corporate office in the next 2-3 years.
