About the Role
Otto Aviation is seeking a dynamic designer to contribute to the design, development, and integration of electrical and avionics systems. You will join a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aviation is seeking first principles designers that balance creativity with experience while working within an effective team atmosphere.
What You’ll Do
- Work with electrical system owners to design, develop and integrate electrical systems in CATIA 3DExperience (3DX), ensuring compliance with technical specifications, performance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings to represent the engineering definition for components, assemblies, and installations, including GD&T dimensions, materials, and processes necessary to fully define the configuration.
- Conduct trade studies for optimized, fit, form, and function of aerospace electrical systems including detailed system layouts and airframe integration.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define and validate electrical interfaces with adjacent systems and structures.
- Generate zonal reference models (ZRM), interface control models (ICM) and interface control drawings (ICD) to define key electrical interfaces with adjacent structures and systems.
- Coordinate design and integration efforts with electrical system suppliers. .
- Generate electrical wiring routing representations throughout the airframe, including wiring harness assembly drawings.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis at component, assembly, and installation levels.
- Produce bill of materials and assist in manufacturing assembly instructions.
- Work with pilots and human factors to support the design and layout of the crew interface for electrical systems.
- Work with maintenance and operation experts to support meeting reliability and maintainability targets.
- Technical oversight and mentorship of junior designers.
Who You Are
Education
- B.S., in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems common in modern Part 23 / Part 25 business aircraft.
- 7+ years of industry experience in a closely related field.
- Experience with design and fabrication of aircraft wiring harnesses and integration of electrical components.
- Experience with ASME Y14.100 Drawings and Y14.5 GD&T.
- Experience with model and drawing checking, engineering part and model release, and engineering change process.
- Experience in rapid prototyping (additive manufacturing) for both experimental and production applications.
- Minimum of 1,000 hours utilizing CATIA V5, V6, or 3DX.
- Familiarity of FAR Part 23 certification requirements and processes pertinent to electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and hands-on experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Otto Aviation is currently a remote/hybrid workplace culture, with plans to secure a permanent headquarters for our corporate office in the next 2-3 years.
