About the role:
We are looking for a Lead Midwife to steer our growing maternity care practice in our new clinic coming to Yonkers, NY in early 2027. We’re searching for someone who is thoughtful and passionate about delivering patient-centric, judgment-free care, and is excited to help build and guide a dynamic and innovative team.
In addition to helping to shape Oula's clinical model, you will also be responsible for delivering full-spectrum perinatal care. This is the perfect opportunity for a CNM/CM that is excited to expand their skill set and help define and build a new best-in-class maternity care experience.
This is a full-time position including a standard schedule blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities – approximately ~65-75% clinical (call + office coverage for prenatal care, gynecology) and ~25-35% administrative duties (people/performance oversight + meetings + admin projects as assigned).
Key Responsibilities:
Management:
- Leads a team of midwives. Hosts regular team meetings to build esprit de corps & facilitate communication. Is open to difficult conversations. Works closely with the clinical operations managers, lead midwife team and Director of Midwifery to ensure close collaboration between Oula sites/teams.
- Collaborates with clinical operations to center team function and productivity – understands and shares clinic and people based metrics and provides ongoing feedback to direct reports in addition to at time of performance reviews
- Collaborates with people operations to address staff satisfaction and retention - sets up bi-directional communication systems with staff midwifery team to solicit feedback and provides ongoing information
- Solicits and provides midwifery input on process improvements, service roll outs and company initiatives to Director of Midwifery
- Acts as the primary point of contact for routine clinical and operational questions raised by staff midwife team
- Supports recruitment, training, onboarding of excellent midwives.
- Leads and participates in regular meetings related to Clinical Care, Clinical Operations, Midwifery Leadership, and Quality/Safety as required.
Leadership:
- Manage the communication feedback loop between leadership and midwives, starting with collecting inputs, cross-functional problem solving, and ultimately communicating key messages and decisions between leadership and the clinical team.
- Support external facing work including presenting at national conferences, marketing events, media/press as needed
- Bring a race and health equity lens to decision making.
Clinical Quality:
- Collaborates with Associate Medical Director and CX team members to facilitate care management for patients who need additional support and medical care
- Works with the Director of Midwifery on regular clinical care reviews/chart audits
- Collaborates with the Director of Midwifery as assigned to further investigate patient and staff midwife complaints
- Assists in identifying gaps in care, systems issues, potential incidents and risk considerations for escalation and further review by the Medical Director.
Clinical Care:
- Provides whole-person care through effective and active collaboration with care team members including obstetricians, consultant specialists, RNs, NPs, front desk staff, MAs, care coordinators, doulas therapists, etc.
- Communicates effectively with patients during and between appointments to ensure questions are answered and concerns are addressed by leveraging Oula’s technology. Imparts key midwifery insights as a bridge between the clinical midwifery team and clinical/organizational leadership teams.
- Provides full-scope midwifery care including gynecology, pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, in a variety of settings: outpatient clinic, hospital and virtually.
- Is the primary point of contact for unforeseen changes in the clinician schedules and works to find coverage for call-outs
- Is available for ad-hoc clinical coverage outside of normally scheduled shifts.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Must hold active state licensure as required to practice midwifery in the clinic’s state, and current certification by the AMCB as a Certified Nurse-Midwife or Certified Midwife
- Leadership experience including mentoring or precepting midwifery students and new midwives or a strong desire to lead and mentor a team
- Experience caring for diverse communities with a wide variety of needs
- Great professional references and a reputation for providing exceptional patient care valued by your patients and colleagues
- Experience with telemedicine or elements of virtual care
- Any extra “bonus” skills or passions that will help us serve our patients (i.e. the ability to communicate with patients in their preferred language, passion for birth equity work, lactation certification, nutrition/diabetes training, etc.)
Total Compensation ranges from $150,000 to $180,000 dependent on experience.

Exact compensation inclusive of salary and any bonuses is determined based on a number of factors including experience and skill level, location, and qualifications which are assessed during the interview process.
