Behavior Scientist
Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped 2.5 million people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.
Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.
We are looking for a Behavioral Scientist to join our Research & Development team. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of behavioral science, AI, and human-computer interaction. You’ll collaborate with product, engineering, UX, and data science colleagues to design and evaluate AI-powered health features, helping members better understand and act on their health data.
This is a remote US role, with a preference for candidates based in San Francisco or San Diego.
We have offices in San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles for those who prefer hybrid or office settings. Oura employees in other major cities (like Boston and New York) occasionally gather informally at local co-working locations.
What you will do
- Design and test AI-assisted behavioral interventions that provide personalized, dynamic, and context-aware health support
- Conduct research and analysis (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods) to inform product design and evaluate impact
- Partner with designers, product managers, engineers, and data scientists to translate behavioral science insights into product features
- Develop lightweight testing and evaluation frameworks that balance rigor with agility in fast-paced product cycles
- Share findings and collaborate with both internal and external researchers to expand evidence-based AI personalization strategies
We would love to have you on our team if you have:
- A PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Health Informatics, or a related field OR a Master degree in related fields with 3+ years of relevant work experience. Healthcare or health tech experience is preferred.
- 1+ years of experience (Post PhD) applying behavioral science/HCI in digital health or related fields with a focus on AI and behavior change
- Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including user research, co-design, and intervention testing
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, or SQL)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly across disciplines
- A collaborative mindset and experience working in multidisciplinary teams
At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own, and we are continually looking to improve employee health.
What we offer:
- Competitive salary and equity packages
- Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
- An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
- 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
