Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics team to enable Global Analytics across Oura.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Analyst for the Data Analytics team.  In this role, you will be responsible for setting the vision and roadmap for the Analytics Data Lifecycle including Business Metrics, Business Glossary, Data Governance, Data Products to accelerate our business growth, deepen our product and membership understanding, and optimize our business operations. Through  cross-functional collaboration you will be working closely with the other peers and leaders to ensure a holistic view of the customer journey from purchase to support. Partner with Business Domain Owners, Data Engineering, Data Science and Business teams to advocate for the unified data analytics and data governance best practices to succeed.

You will have the opportunity to design and build Oura’s federated governance model for the data mesh in a collaborative, decentralized approach, with centralized policy-setting and platform enablement to ensure domain autonomy while maintaining enterprise-wide standards for security, access, and data quality.

What You Will Do

  • Federated Data Governance
    • Ensure privacy, compliance, and security across a federated data mesh architecture
    • Collaborate with Oura’s security guild comprising of Legal, IT, Security, and Enterprise Data Architecture to define and manage a data governance framework for the full data lifecycle from acquisition to deletion
    • Align data practices with SOC 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST standards
    • Establish policies that balance domain-level autonomy with enterprise-wide consistency
  • Data Quality & Integrity
    • Uphold high standards of data quality, accuracy, and trustworthiness for all data products
    • Champion best practices for metadata management, lineage tracking, and validation
  • Self-Serve Data & Enablement
    • Work alongside platform and data product teams to enable self-service analytics in a governed way
    • Help establish secure access patterns, role-based permissions, and audit-readiness practices
    • Enable Domain Missions and Squads to execute on governance framework
    • Foster a data-driven culture, enabling data-centric decision-making across all levels of the organization 
  • Strategy & Framework Development:
    • Define the strategic vision and develop the enterprise-wide data governance roadmap, outlining key priorities and goals 
    • Roll out a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, standards, processes, and metrics 
    • Drive innovation by leveraging emerging data technologies and fostering these capabilities within the team to drive data obfuscation, anonymization
    • Framework for data deletion, data retention, data sharing
  • Policy & Standard Management:
    • Create and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures for data quality, security, and usage 
    • Ensure these policies are documented, maintained, and aligned with business needs and regulatory requirements 
  • Data Owners, Stewardship & Oversight:
    • Establish clear roles and responsibilities for data stewardship, ensuring clear accountability for the company's information assets across each domain 
    • Oversee data stewards, data owners, and other data-related teams to ensure policies are followed 
  • Data Quality & Security:
    • Develop and implement initiatives to improve data quality and establish metrics for monitoring and assessment 
    • Oversee the development and enforcement of data security and privacy policies, including access controls and compliance with regulations 
  • Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:
    • Develop and lead the Data Mesh Steering Committee of a central body including executive sponsors, data governance leads, domain experts, and platform/security architects. This committee sets the vision, business drivers, and success criteria for the federated governance model
    • Serve as a liaison between business and technology teams to ensure data-related business requirements are understood and addressed 
    • Foster cross-functional collaboration and raise awareness of data governance principles and best practices across the organization 
    • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels 
    • Establish and develop roles and responsibility matrix to clarify domain ownership and influence stakeholders alignment
    • AI Governance use cases in collaboration with the AI Productivity and liaison as part of the AI Governance Committee
  • Reporting & Issue Resolution:
    • Establish mechanisms for governance oversight, including regular reviews and compliance monitoring 
    • Identify and prioritize data governance projects and resolve escalated data-related issues from various departments 
  • Metadata & Data Lineage:
    • Implement processes for capturing and maintaining metadata, including data lineage and definitions, to improve data discoverability and understanding 
  • Domain Expertise:
    • HIPAA, PHI, PCI, GDPR, CDPR, Regulations and Governance Policies
  • A strong understanding of the business domains they are supporting is needed to build relevant data products within consumer health, medical devices, and or healthcare services 
  • Experience working with Legal/Security team to align on policies and guidelines
  • Communication, collaboration, and a product mindset are important for working with various domain teams


We Would Love to Have You on Our Team, If You Have

  • 10+ years of experience managing and developing data analysis and governance systems
  • Experience establishing and executing a data governance framework
  • Developing and enforcing policies for data quality, security, and compliance. Key responsibilities include defining data standards, overseeing data owners, data stewards 
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a data-driven culture across the organization 
  • Managing data lineage, metadata, and resolve data-related issues to align data practices with business goals 
  • Direct experience with some of the following Analytics tools ex: Tableau, Looker, Quicksight, etc
  • You are self-motivated, proactive, and able to lead and manage your own work effectively
  • A pragmatic and goal oriented approach to development
  • Hands on experience working with governed data including PII, PHI, HIPAA, GDPR

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience leading the Data Lifecycle from data definition, delivery to destruction
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and measurable business outcomes 
  • Real-life experience with data analysis and governance with data mesh using Databricks, Google BigQuery or similar technologies
  • Familiarity and experience with the Governed Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, and federated Data Mesh approach
  • Data architecture, design including data vaults with protective layers
  • Broad knowledge of software fundamentals, databases, warehouses, and system design with experience on various programming languages
  • Experience leading teams directly or indirectly with responsibility for data analysis and governance

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Region 1: $198,050 - $233,000
