Principal Test Engineer, Vehicle

The Team
You are joining a growing team that is responsible for motion planning, controls, and behaviors for Outrider’s autonomous trucks. This team is collaborative and committed to continuous improvement. Team members use tools such as off-the-shelf simulation software and data analytics to understand the performance of the product at scale in diverse situations, and they maintain a state-of-the-art motion planning stack by routinely studying new techniques from the research community. The Role
As Principal Test Engineer, you will be responsible for developing test strategies and plans that enable the verification and validation of the Outrider system, working cross-functionally with other teams to ensure proper test execution, and evaluating test results to confirm conformance to technical and product requirements. This is an individual contributor position which plays an essential role in helping deliver a safety-critical system for logistics automation. The opportunity offers a very talented, highly experienced test engineer the chance to help develop a market-defining enterprise product that combines autonomous vehicle technology with a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model. The ideal candidate will embrace our goal to drive zero-emission, self-driving vehicle adoption, and help us realize our potential to define, build, and lead a new category of robotic automation for the enterprise.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop test strategies and plans for a highly complex autonomous vehicle
- Support the strategic development of testing at all levels, including component, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL), Vehicle, Simulation, etc.
- Design tests that effectively verify system requirements, analyze and report test results
- Effectively communicate test strategies and capabilities to organizational leadership and customers
- Mentor and coach team members to grow their technical skills and personal attributes, provide direction for their day to day activities
- Support the requirements generation process
- Embody a "Safety Steward" mindset - hold the company and all co-workers accountable for safety in development, test, and in the finished system, and proactively propose safety improvements
Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience leading system test initiatives in an innovative product development environment
- Knowledge of safety standards and their application to system requirements and testing (especially: ISO 21448/SOTIF)
- Experience testing autonomous vehicles or robotic systems (ideally self-driving in some form)
- Extensive experience with the system development life cycle, modern software/hardware/system testing methods, and continuous integration
- Experience leading project teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience testing autonomous vehicles or ADAS features
- Experience with vehicle testing methods and equipment
- High level understanding of machine learning techniques
- High level understanding of perception and localization algorithms used in robotics and AV applications
- IBM ELM / DOORS experienceExperience with JIRA and Confluence
- Familiarity with common tools for data analysis e.g. Python, SQL, etc.
- Knowledge of ISO 26262
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $150,000 - $300,000
