The Role

The AV Test Technician reports directly to the Autonomous Vehicle Test Operations Manager and supports the daily operations of the Advanced Testing Facility. This role focuses on verifying and validating the performance and safety of the autonomous vehicle system and its subsystems, including software, sensors, robotic components, and the electric vehicle platform.

A successful candidate will be hands-on, adaptable, and eager to work in a dynamic test environment. Responsibilities include operating robotic test assets, executing test procedures, and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure smooth test operations. The AV Test Technician will also collaborate with engineers and other team members to refine testing processes and improve system performance.

This position plays a key role in delivering a safety-critical system for industrial automation. It offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of a cutting-edge autonomous vehicle product that integrates advanced robotics with a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute system, sub-system and component testing of the autonomous vehicles at Outrider’s Advanced Testing Facility
  • Work hands-on with the Autonomous Vehicle Test Operators to schedule and launch test missions, operate and monitor several software tools simultaneously during test execution, and perform root-cause analyses to document issues found during testing
  • Be a steward of the safety mindset: conduct daily on-site safety inspections of the trucks, equipment, and area, and proactively propose safety improvements
  • Record and communicate test results in a timely manner
  • Support any product demonstrations for internal and external visitors at Outrider’s Advanced Testing Facility

  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • B.A. Degree or higher or 2+ year of relevant experience in a similar technical discipline
  • Knowledge of linux and command-line interface operations 
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Proficient with Google Productivity Apps (gmail, Calendar, Sheets, etc)
  • Verbal and written communication skills

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience testing automotive products, aerospace products, autonomous vehicles/trucks, robotic systems or other automated distribution yard products

Schedule

  • 3rd Shift: Friday - Sunday from 6:00am - 6:30pm

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $29.00
  • Equity: Equity package commensurate on experience and skills
  • Benefits: Full health benefits
  • Actual compensation is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role is primarily based in a warehouse setting with regular exposure to varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow. This position involves regular exposure to moderate noise levels typical of a warehouse environment, including machinery and vehicle operations. Employees will be working around autonomous trucks and must be comfortable operating in an industrial environment. 

Physical requirements include:

  • Ascending and descending in and out of trucks
  • Lifting and transporting supplies as needed
  • Using hand tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches
  • Cleaning and maintaining work areas with supplies such as brooms
  • Performing tasks that may require standing, walking, bending, twisting, or reaching for extended periods
