The Role

Outrider is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Head of Accounting for a temporary, contract position to oversee the company’s financial operations during a period of rapid growth. This role is critical to ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency while supporting strategic decision-making. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and requires a hands-on approach to managing accounting processes, financial systems, and cross-functional collaboration. This role has an expected duration of 6-months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Manage month-end and quarter-end close processes, including reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
  • Collaborate with the COO to prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to leadership
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other applicable taxes
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineering, Operations, HR) to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency
  • Maintain and optimize financial systems and tools (e.g., ERP and A/P software) to support scalability
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for investors, board members, and other stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Accounting, Accounting Manager, or similar role in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of accounting and financial management experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close processes and deliver timely financial statements
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information with integrity

Ideal Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Experience in a technology, logistics, or startup environment
  • Familiarity with venture-backed companies and investor reporting requirements
  • Prior experience with contract or temporary roles, demonstrating adaptability and quick onboarding
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and multi-state tax filings
