Revenue Accountant
Meet Ozow
Ozow is a leading fintech company redefining digital payments across South Africa and beyond. We’re committed to making payments more accessible, secure, and frictionless for businesses and consumers. As a fast-growing tech business, we value innovation, accountability, and collaboration – and we’re building a team that thrives on solving meaningful challenges.
About the Role
We are looking for a technically strong, analytically minded Revenue Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for managing end-to-end revenue and accounts receivable processes, ensuring high-quality data, reliable controls, and strong governance in a complex, high-volume payments environment.
You will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of revenue reporting, supporting FP&A with dependable inputs, and strengthening operational processes as Ozow continues to scale.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Execution
- Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, collections, allocations, and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate ageing schedules and proactively follow up on overdue merchant accounts.
- Track, validate, and report revenue earned across high-volume transaction sources.
- Monitor merchant accounts and attend to internal and external queries timeously.
- Prepare audit support for all revenue and AR-related processes.
- Support ad-hoc revenue and data analysis as required.
Technical Accuracy & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition in line with IFRS and internal accounting policies.
- Maintain strong governance over billing processes, credit notes, adjustments, and approval workflows.
- Uphold documentation, audit trails, and control standards across the revenue function.
- Support internal and external audits with clear, well-prepared schedules and reconciliations.
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Calculate and validate revenue impacts of credit notes, adjustments, merchant changes, and settlement variances.
- Provide accurate revenue data and reconciliations to support FP&A forecasting, budgeting, and month-end reporting.
- Identify anomalies or irregularities in revenue flows and work collaboratively to resolve root causes.
- Enhance and document SOPs, process maps, and governance frameworks to improve consistency and reduce manual intervention.
- Recommend improvements to streamline and strengthen the revenue and AR cycle.
Systems, Data & Automation
- Utilise Xero, data tools, and fintech platforms to automate AR and revenue processes where possible.
- Work confidently with large data sets across multiple systems.
- Support financial system improvements, integrations, and automation initiatives, including AI-driven solutions.
You Are an Ideal Candidate If You Have
- 5+ years’ experience in Revenue Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Debtors, or a similar analytical finance role.
- A relevant accounting qualification (degree or diploma) with solid foundational accounting knowledge.
- Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation, complex lookups, pivot tables, and high-volume reconciliations.
- Proven experience working with large data volumes and complex, multi-step processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to build rapport and manage relationships across internal teams and external merchants.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and a high sense of ownership.
- Experience with Xero (advantageous).
- Experience in fintech, payments, or transaction-based environments (advantageous).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth business where accuracy, accountability, and teamwork are essential.
Your skills and competencies
- You eagerly embrace change, absorb cross-functional skills, and connect ideas across disciplines to drive fresh thinking and innovation.
- Ability to initiate, develop, maintain and leverage outstanding relationships to influence a wide network, both inside and outside the company.
- A trailblazer who steps up, takes charge, and creates meaningful impact—those driven by performance and purpose to lead from the front and make a real difference every day.
- You thrive in collaboration, embrace inclusion, and bring a genuine curiosity for global cultures—valuing collective success over individual credit.
- Demonstrate strategic foresight, sound judgement, and the ability to make confident decisions under uncertainty, always working toward the best possible outcomes.
- You challenge norms, champion innovation, and constantly seek growth—for themselves, their team, and the solutions they build.
- You are a decisive doer—those who take initiative, follow through with confidence, and ensure results through courageous, hands-on leadership.
- We value optimism, agility, and the strength to persevere under pressure—balancing performance with positivity, even in challenging environments.
- You are driven, proactive individuals who take ownership, face challenges with grit, and consistently push for excellence—not just as participants, but as catalysts for success.
