Digital Marketing Manager

Work from Anywhere in the U.S.

You: A builder. You take scattered tools—data dashboards, email platforms, heatmaps, CMS—and shape them into something coherent, elegant, and effective. You’re the kind of person who asks why a page underperforms, and then actually finds the answer. You think in funnels and flywheels.

You enjoy solving other people’s problems, but you don’t just take orders—you listen, understand the “why,” and then propose something smarter. You have experience with ambitious goals—and sometimes unclear paths to get there. Colleagues might come to you with a half-baked idea for a landing page or a loose desire to “get this in front of new people,” and you help shape it into something strategic, testable, and tied to outcomes. You're the translator between "I need eyeballs" and "Here’s a multi-channel plan with spend caps, KPIs, and a rollout calendar.”

You’re agile with digital ad platforms and comfortable pivoting a campaign mid-flight if the results demand it.

Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There’s a lot of government overreach out there, and it’s backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other’s backs, and are confident in and passionate for the cause—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF.

Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the United States Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 20 cases litigated at the Court. We also have more than a hundred active cases across the nation.

We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does “next-generation” mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we aren’t interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.

Here’s what you get to do in this role:

Our mission is serious—but our internal culture prizes creativity, experimentation, and intellectual freedom. We are growing fast, and our marketing operation is growing with us. That means we’re building the kind of in-house team that can test bold ideas, learn fast, and punch way above its weight.

You’ll lead our digital marketing queue—managing incoming requests from across the organization, helping other teams clarify their goals, and providing tactics and strategies to achieve them. You’ll oversee a digital marketing associate who handles execution-heavy work like HTML email builds, landing page design, and minor web edits—ensuring quality, throughput, and continuous improvement.

You’ll own our various paid platforms, continuously auditing and implementing optimizations. You’ll take the lead managing the full lifecycle of small to mid-scale digital advertising campaigns—including concept and strategy, and platform campaign build out, monitoring, optimization and reporting. This includes selecting channels, setting goals, allocating spend, building custom audiences, and iterating on creative and messaging.

You’ll also monitor our approach to landing page and website performance: utilizing heatmaps, recordings, and analytics tools to recommend improvements to campaign funnels, journey touchpoints, and email drips. This role resides at the intersection of strategy and execution, and it comes with the autonomy to enhance our digital approach across the board.

Getting down to brass tacks, your specific job duties likely will include:

  • Own and prioritize the digital marketing queue across the org
  • Manage paid digital advertising platforms
  • Build and monitor ad campaigns across platforms (i.e. Meta, Google Ads, YouTube, X, LinkedIn)
  • Guide and support a digital marketing associate (execution + growth)
  • Recommend UX and messaging improvements based on analytics and heatmaps
  • QA email sends, landing pages, and simple web updates
  • Act as a consultative partner to other teams with marketing requests
  • Help develop repeatable processes that scale with the team

This role is ideal for you if:

  • You have at least 5 years of paid digital marketing experience (but we care more about what you’ve done than how long you’ve done it)
  • You’ve managed ad campaigns directly, not just outsourced them
  • You’ve worked cross-functionally and helped others refine vague asks into specific deliverables
  • You like managing people, and you’re excited to help someone grow
  • You’re curious, resourceful, and thrive on figuring out how things work—and how to make them better
  • You are values-driven and would rather be part of a mission than just a brand
