Case Publicist

Work from Anywhere in the U.S.

You: A fast-moving communicator with a journalist’s instincts and a project manager’s precision. You track every development, spot the story, extract the core message, and hit the deadline—without sacrificing clarity or accuracy. You love working at the intersection of law, policy, and public opinion, and you’re energized by the idea of helping landmark cases break through the noise. You don’t just write well—you know what needs to be written, when, and why.

Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There's a lot of government overreach out there, and it's backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other's backs, work together to achieve, and are confident in, and passionate for, the cause of liberty—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF.

Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation's first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the U.S. Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 21 cases heard by the Court. We also have nearly two hundred active cases across the nation.

We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does "next generation" mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we aren't interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.

Here's what you get to do in this role:

As a PLF Case Publicist, you'll support a portfolio of cases and policy initiatives from filing through resolution. You'll research facts, draft written content, and coordinate timelines to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Working closely with the legal team and the communications team, you'll translate complex arguments into accessible, compelling content that serves multiple audiences — from policymakers and journalists to grassroots supporters and potential future clients. In short: you’ll make our most important work impossible to ignore.

In practice, your specific job duties will likely include:

  • Drafting and updating case pages, press releases, and blog posts to promote PLF's litigation and policy work
  • Tracking case developments and delivering assets quickly and consistently
  • Adding content to website
  • Collaborating with the Media and Digital teams to align your content with audience, platform, and outreach strategy
  • Participating in weekly case messaging and prioritization meetings to stay ahead of the news cycle and litigation calendar
  • Supporting organization-wide campaign efforts, major wins, and rapid-response initiatives as needed
  • Tracking case ingests and case development needs in project management software (Asana)

This role is ideal for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience writing for public-facing audiences in a fast-paced newsroom, agency, or advocacy environment (but we care more about what you’ve done than how long you’ve done it)
  • Strong editorial instincts and the ability to write quickly, cleanly, and with a clear point of view
  • A portfolio that shows skill in storytelling and translating complex material for general audiences
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once—and thriving under deadlines
  • A passion for individual liberty, constitutional law, and helping real people fight back against government overreach
  • A team-first attitude, curiosity, and a commitment to getting the story right
  • Comfort reading legal filings, court opinions, and policy documents to extract facts and storylines for general audiences.
